Ya ever been following behind someone and thought, "Good gawdallmighty why are they slowing down soooooooo much for such a gentle turn?" This is why. Most people have developed an utter terror of any kind of sensation of lateral acceleration. They are certain that the car could, at any second spin wildly out of control and into a flaming wad in a ditch.
