      roadrunner horn question

this may be a dumb question, but, should my 'beep beep' horn in my 70 road runner make the dual beep beep sound every time I press the horn?
is it supposed to be off the centre button only? (ie not the ring)
just curious as my horn seems to hit and miss as to whether it makes the dual beep beep sound (most times it is just a monotone normal sounding horn)

ps-I only picked the car up yesterday

No, it doesn't dual beep on its own. You have to press it twice to do it.

Sounds like a good project for someone wanting tobuild a timer so holding the horn ring down gives double beeps

I read once that when Chrysler (Plymouth) set out to make the Road Runner horn, it spent a lot of dough to replicate the "Beep Beep" to no avail. Some smart person suggested the VW horn of the day, and "voila"!! problem solved.

If not true, makes a good story.

Nah, all they did was wind the coil with aluminum instead of copper to get a "tinnier" sound.

got it worked out, the internal mechanisms in the column were loose so it wasnt getting a proper connection when depressed, thats why it was either all or nothing.
After tightening it all up I can now get it to beep beep quickly to sounds kinda like the Roadrunner.

      item #1 off the list.

wheels arrive soon, then new gas tank, then....
