Cold Air Intake & Rain ???

I've been thinking about hooking up some type of cold air intake setup on my Cutlass, either under the bumper or in the hi-beam headlights. This will be a daily driver. I've often wondered what a person does if they get caught out in the rain.

Would it just be better to leave it off a driver?

I'd like some thoughts and ideas.

      Thanks

I'm not sure how to do it, exactly, but if you use the proper bends you don't have to worry.
THe proper bend will be sharp enough to "throw" any water to the side of the tube and out of the air's path.
You need to make sure water can't collect in the tube.

Jason, you must be on the right track as I was talking to a guy at work about this today and that's what he said, too. I need to make sure I get this right, I'm running TPI with a MAF (the thin wire type from the 89 f-body) and I DON'T want moisture hitting that!

      Thanks for the input Jason.

Any other ideas? I know more of you are running Cold Air Intakes. Don't tell me they never see the rain guys!

I will be using a spectre cold air intake in my 409 EFI build and I bought the muscle car kit from an independent shop with a very knowledgeable owner. He told me that water would have a very hard time getting sucked all the way to the air box. I am a belt and suspenders kind of guy when it comes to something I have so much time and money into so I have been considering buying Injen pre-filters which are water resistant and using them to cover the openings.

It's be general understanding that as long as the intake is not pointed down where it can pick-up splash from a puddle that there really isn't enough water to cause an issue.

AEM did come up with a solution to this but it's nothing you couldn't make at home

It looks like lnirenberg found just what I was looking for. The Air Valves Brett mentioned wouldn't be a bad idea either.

      Thanks guys.

Spectre is the company that started me thinking about this. I met Dave Johnson at a car show a few years ago and was asking about the headlight funnels for a quad rectangle setup (aka G-body). Still not decided if I want to replace my hi-beam headlights or mount the funnels in the cut-out slot between the turn signals and license plate on the Cutlass bumper.

i'd go with the headlight area. i never trust having an intake low to the ground. i've towed a few of them. and the g-body has so much room by the headlights. i'd just put an air filter in up front to block any water ingestion, plus of course the proper bends and angles.
