Rear end compatibility for 68 camaro

I am going to need to upgrade the rear end in my 68 camaro and would like to go with a 12 bolt to replace the current 10 bolt. I was wondering if anyone new what rear ends would swap in? Meaning, what other car rear ends can I use. Am I limited to just the first gen rear ends? Would a rear end from Nova fit?

Im inquiring as far as width and mounting. I realize the mounts can be changed, but Im looking for something that is just a bolt in.

8.5" 10 bolt rear ends from late model Nova's drop in. These rear ends are almost as sturdy as the 12 bolt.

Agree, but later in the model run ('75 and up if I'm not mistaken) they had the spring perches set wider to match up with the second-gen F-body.

Any bolt-in 12-bolt rear for a first-gen is going to be extremely hard to find and will cost big bucks. There were probably a few used in big-block Novas in the late '60s and very early '70s, but these will be just about as rare as hens teeth.

Take those spring perches off and replace them with a set of these: http://www.detroitspeed.com/productp..._pads_prod.htm as an added bonus they will allow you to set the pinion angle in a very simple way.

When you're on a budget you can replace 'm by these: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Weld-O...g-Pad,632.html

BTW; that also means that you can get any (but pref. w/posi) 2nd gen rearend. Yes those rearends are 1 inch wider but you compensate that by choosing wheels with the proper B.S.
