fuel injected LSx. Period. Starts the first time, every time - good on pump gas and good mileage. And yeee-haw, hold on for low end fuel injected torque!

If you are interested in the LS series engines, may I suggest the L92, 6.2L... Small mods put it into the 500 HP range. You know you want it.

nothing beats a LSx for power, weight, efficiency, and reliability.

hits like a big block and weighs less then a small block.

LSx without a doubt. Best bang for the buck, and they have awesome potential.

But if it has to be one of the ones you listed, I'd say 427, just because I think it sounds correct in a Camaro.

I love all of the LS guys, it makes availability on 1st gen Small Blocks, LT1s and Big Blocks all that much greater.

For years and years everyone complained about belly button SBC engines. Not that the sbc has been superceeded in production, alot of people are jumping into the belly button LSX engines.

I understand horsepower per dollar and horsepower per pound, but I also want some diversity underhood.

The ZZ4 in my Camaro gives over 20 mpg on the highway. While a little lower than an LSX engine might give, it's still respectable.

It depends on what you want. If you want a BBC (4 of your 5 initial suggestions), do it. You'll be the last on your block with a big block car

For what it's worth, I am doing a 489 inch big block in a '70 Camaro with a 5 speed. I have ZERO expectations for decent gas mileage. But for a weekend terror it will be an absolute riot.
If you want good power, mpg's, great drivability and easy long term reliable use do any of the LS motors. You can't go wrong. I just wanted a big block for the fun of it.
