      radiator issue! help

being the genius that i am a few weeks ago i had to fill up my radiator and forgot to put the cap back on. drove maybe 15 miles with no cap. i noticed when i got home and saw some steam coming out from under the hood.

i went to autozone and purchased a stock replacement radiator cap. the engione is a 95 LT1. When i put the cap on and started the car today i got water leaking/ spraying out of the sides of the radiator!

so my question is... bad cap? or did i destroy the radiator?
I really dont want to spend 200 on a new one as money is tight.

      thanks

If you have fluid coming out of the sids of the radiator, you now have cracks or holes in your radiator. I would take it to a radiator shop to get an estimate on welding the spots that are leaking. It may mean it's time for a replacement.
