Adjusted the clutch and the noise has subsided. I am having a 2nd gear isuse. I though this was clutch related but it is not.

I can drive "very light footed" and every gear is okay.
I can drive "normal" and every gear is okay.
Once I get the RPM's up 2nd gear only gives a grind.

I can down shift into 2nd with no issues any RPM

I have notive the skip shift plug was damaged looks like the plug housing was cracked off. Could it be the issue?

      Could the shifter be bend?

Do I dare say something inside like syncro or fork or gear?

I am running just the over the counter dectron 3. Should I use something better?

My rear gears are not upgraded yet still running the 2.73's. (Can't see this being the issue.

      Any thoughts?

Do you have pictures of where you are now located with the trans?

I am hitting in the exact same location - please see pics below:

The rubber bushing near the tunnel is about 1/2" from touching.

I am hitting on the top bolt location on the center of the tunnel:

I don't have any final installed pictures but I know my tunnel and floors were distorted. I a piece of wood using the weight of the car to strech the tunnel. When I did this the spot welds of the drivers side pulled out. Thats how off my floors were. I needed to reweld them once the floor was strait. You probably don't want to hear this but the only way is to pull the trans. Whats the measurement from the old shifter location to the top of the trans? From what it looks like you need as much as I did. I moved my tunnel about an inch and now have tons of room.

If I am seeing that pic right, that tab can be removed. I took 2 off my T56:

Its really funny... those clear fine - it is the top of the trans between those two ears that is hitting.

You're having the drill mod issue I bet. McKelcy was nice enough to tell me about it. It's basically where the fluid cannot return to the master cylinder fast enough during high speed shifting with stock hydraulic hoses. First shift usually good, second shift a little off, third shift doesn't go. Just do a search on google for "drill mod t56" or something along those lines and there's a better explanation for it than I can provide.

I take it you've figured out your crossmember problem but bowtie overdrives has an adjustable transmission mount that moves forwards or backwards 2.5 inches either way for a total of 5 inches of play.

yep, had to do the drill mod to mine as well. My understanding is that some later units don't need it. (mine did though)

I did read that there was hydraulic issues with the clutch. I am using the mechanical linkages. I'll keep this in mind if I switch to hydraulic. I have purchased an overhaul kit to rebuild the unit.

      Thanks for the input guys!

New or used T56? If used, someone may already have beaten on the 1-2 synchros.

Its a used unit, and may have had a hard life. I got a rebuild kit for it and will have a local shop freshen it up.

Just curious but where'd you get your rebuild kit from?
