      Rendering Pro Touring Pinto

This is my lastest creation in photoshop. Traditional hand drawn sketch scanned into photoshop and painted. I had this idea since I now own a Pinto, and after a long search found no finished and only 1 project pro-touring style Pinto. This is dare to be different!

      My vision.
      Ford 2.3 engine
      Turbo
      Front mount intercooler
      TKO 5speed
      Ford 9" rear
4 wheel disc brakes ( 4 piston 13" rotor front, 4 piston 12" rotor rear
      Tubular UCA & LCA's
      Quick ratio rack
      3 link rear suspension
      Coilovers at all 4 corners
Rushforth Super Spoke wheels brushed hoops with powder coated centers- 18x9 rear 18x8 front.
Custom front valance cut-out for intercooler
      Chin spoiler and canards
Headlights with turn signals built in
      Bright green/gold paint!

      Pro-Touring Pinto

Guys let me know what you think. I would like to start doing some renderings on the side for a reasonable fee. If anyone is interested please feel free to contact me.

Bolts right up. Just a lot of wiring.

I've had two 2.3 turbocoupe motors in my '78.

400hp is attainable and still relatively streetable.

Check out North American Turbocoupe Organization website for 2.3 turbo modifications.

I'm not sure what the rest of the guys and gals on www.FordPinto.com would say, but I say go for it. And hurry, 2011 is the anniversary of the Ford Pinto. It'd be cool to have you at All Ford Nat's in Carlisle, PA next year. I'm hoping to have my '78 driveable. http://www.fordpinto.com/index.php/board,57.0.html

I have Granada 11" rotors on my stock MkII hubs. With GM Metric calipers and adaptors. '96 Mustang V6 rear calipers on 10" rotors. I'm not aware of anyone making 13" rotors for the Pinto. :( That's as big as the stock rims. :D

FWIW, 18x8 won't turn up front without modifying the inner fenders/fender lip. 17x7 fit with slight rubbing at full lock, on a stock suspension.

Good luck, and make sure you post up a link here when you start on the build thread.

Oh yes! The Maverick is currently stripped down to bare metal. Getting ready to start the body mods and general body work on it. Got most the major fab work completed...just a few things left to do.

I wont be building this anytime soon. If someone else wants to use the idea for a build I say go for it. I'm currently up to my eyeballs in my Maverick build and have a baby on the way so.

If you wanted to do 13" rotors on the front it's possible. I'm going with 13" on the front of my Mav. Im using Wilwood Pro-spindles which are a mustang II style spindle with a reversible steering arm. They are also more big brake friendly since they are built with conventional caliper mounting points. You can then use a Wilwood hub and a slip on (late model style) rotor, and your choice of caliper provided you can get or make a caliper bracket.

I am a member over on FordPinto.com I just haven't had a chance to post this over there yet.

Ah, nice. I hadn't looked at Wilwood...

You should still come to All Ford Nats next year. Bring both the rides.

Regrettably that engine isn't available over here. The US gets an underpowered FWD engine while UK/Europe gets the fun, turbo charged AWD powerplant. :(

I haven't seen the Focus RS engine bay, but I believe the engine is transversely mounted, like my 2.3 Mazda motor which would cause more fabrication problems than it is worth.

The Thunderbird turbocoupe 2.3 motor is pretty much a bolt in job capable of large power numbers (for a 4cyl) with the right parts and tune.

I had a '86 2.3T and '87 2.3T motors for my Pinto, but ended up selling them for a '89 302 HO motor. Ideal HP I was looking at on the 2.3T with a pretty optimistic budget was 400hp, if I was lucky. The 302 will do that cheaper, and the weight difference is minimal.

Somebody build it already. It just looks great . I think a small car with a small American 4 clinder can be a great PT car. All the American manufacturers have a good 4 cylinder to work with. Ford has the 2.3L, MOPAR has the 2.2L, Pontiac has the 2.5L Super Duty, not to mention the newer engines like the Ecotech.
