Anyone know if Boyd/American Racing got their act together?

I'm going to give it another shot even though I almost got burned the last time I did this. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. Anyway, I had acquired a front set of Boyd Junk Yard Dogs about 2 yrs ago now (I can't believe it's been that long) and I need a custom made rear set.

Has anyone (or any vendor) had any good luck with custom orders with AR lately? Meaning you had an order arrive in the 6-8wks as promised? I know they moved and/or merging and have got whatever issues w/ their operations but i'd really really like to order a set of JYDs for the rears.

p.s. you guys looking to get wheels in 3-4 wks build time should consider yourselves lucky! I waited over 6 months and ended up battling with a vendor for a refund and never got the wheels

For us no improvement yet. Waited for my wheels well over a year. Customer orders for generic stuff like TT2's and such are about six weeks. Mind you we are in Canada and do small volumes with them, so most likely low on the B/O list.

They should be proudly displayed for all your gearhead buddies to see . . .... Everyone needs a couple of really nice hose-reels in the shop!

They are currently out of all kinds of outers... 18s, 17s, etc. I've had orders in since March....

Everytime I see one of these A/R threads pop up, I think of something my uncle once said at the end of a very bad 3+ hour movie. It went something like this (you'll have to imagine the thick New York accent yourself), "I would've preferred a swift kick in the nuts over that...at least the pain would have been over with quicker."

Coffee table option is sounding pretty good all things considered.

Actually, I was entertaining the hose-reel idea.

They must have not been making any real profit with that wheel line if they're willing to let it crash and burn like this. It's too bad.. there's a lot of brand equity with the at least the Boyds line.

the reason why were putting you on to the guys on here is going to save you the time and headache WE have been through with wack ass companies... wheel or whatever.

besides.. with time enough on here you will grow to appreciate the type of wheels you would have purchased.

let alone fast wait times, great customer service, and HIGH quality.. not like boyds bullshed ass kungfu wheels.

Whom do you think the first person the July edition of Hotrod & Restoration magazine (an afermarket industry pub) quoted in their latest edition? "Hot rodders are individualistic," said Boyd Coddington, Jr., owner of Genuine Boyd's in Smithville, Missouri.. "There are two ways to get your car to stand out, paint and wheels." I guess one way to stand out is waiting for your wheels to arrive!

I believe that Boyd Jr. is not associated with the American racing stuff. His stuff is forged and hence the name Genuine Boyd's. Don't quote me on any of that though.

yea... waiting a year really helps you stand out at this years show/track/autox season..

and especially with the "hot new look" that those boyds would give your ride..

this coming from an old Boyd patron..

Im pretty sure most of the guys are talking about the boyd line of wheels, Yeah, the Genuine money they tossed out there for Genuine boyds wheels, not so much the AR wheels.

That only comes up cause AR bought the failing boyds line so thats the only affiliation with AR. So there was this boyds shop trying to put out some wheels, they were failing, AR saw a way to pick up the name (cheap) but keep it separate.

Well, the turkeys still running the boyds wheel shop were on vacation it seems cause there was no one to light the fire under their azz. So yeah, they were still running the lathes, and welding the hoops, but on a more relaxed atmosphere. And the front office prolly didnt have any pull, so as the orders came in it was like, ok, we are still turning a center for this wheel, we will do that center next week. Nice vacation..

And you really CAN blame AR for not overseeing the boyds shop as they should have. So what do they get? A black eye. Through affiliation.

Ok, political rant.. I look at it like I see some of the really weird stuff going on with the auto manufactures. Frickin GM goes BK, ONLY to tell their stock holders and the people they owe millions SORRY!! So then they will be outta BK in no time, CEO gets to keep his bitchin job (nice income) and we are supposed to say hey!!!! Lookee here, GM is great!!!! WHAT!!!

Solly guys for the political rant but the nexis is.... I hope anyone with an order on the bench for boyds wheels doesnt get side lined with them saying solly bud!!! But boyds is no longer. Yeah, sure, there is boyds JR now but you arent part of that group. SHAMEFUL!!!! (oh, and AR still is in business and held the company for some time so if they do try that crap go after AR) JR
