      Addco Sway Bars

I've got Addco front and rear sway bars on my car now, and the rears make a lot of clunking noises when I take tight turns. The mounts are only bolted on and no matter how much I tighten them, they tend to move. Also, the bolts on the links are bent.

The front also clunks a bit but it's less of a problem.

Anyone have any experience with these bars?

If the mounts that are moving are the clamps on the rear axle housing then get a 3" exhaust clamp and use the clamp to get more surface area bite on the housing.

It wasn't clunking before I put the swaybar in, so I'm assuming it's the bar.

It is mounted to the rear of the axle with two U clamps, a "lock piece" and the brackets. The links are held in place in the frame in a similar manner.

I noticed that the clamps on the axles had moved slightly - the axle is undercoated and it was scraped off a bit. I've tightened the clamps as much as I can by hand but it's still clunking when I turn.

well you have to play detective, does it do it in both R and L turns, slow or fast turning, do you have a locking diff. are your shocks tight, about the springs?

It tends to mostly do it on right turns, the faster I turn the more it clunks, and I'd say the shocks are pretty tight as they're brand new. Springs are older.

      It's a non-locking rear.

check to see if the sway bar is marked / scratched, could be where it's rubbing.

I've got them on my car and have never heard a noise....

Is the swaybar moving where it's bolted to the axle tubes ??
Or , is it rotating or sliding in the mounts and hitting the leaf springs or something ??
The swaybar is going to twist and/or rotate in the mounts.
Maybe try re- positioning it's static position.
Like , when the car is just sitting at rest , make sure the bar has plenty of room all around it.
It might be twisting up and hitting the rear end housing too.

It turns out that it isn't the bar after all, it's the expensive but apparently sloppy install of the exhaust system hitting the bar and the *tire*!

You'd think $1600 would buy a quality exhaust system, wouldn't you? Or that they'd test drive the car before handing it back?

Anyway, glad to find the solution to the problem.
