Is YouTube always so slow ??

Last night , I was loading some of the in-car videos I made at the MotorState Challenge.
( They aren't really that good . Sorry . But what the heck , I've got 'em , So I might as well post them )

      Anyway,
Some of the vids are 15 minutes long.
It took 2 hours and 45 minutes to load one 15 minute video onto YouTube last night.

      Is this normal ?????

I've got 6 or 8 videos that are 15 minutes or so.
It's gonna' take me month to load them if it takes that long.

Believe it or not, but the Michael Jackson feeding frenzy has adversely affected the internet. It brought down numberous sites due to heavy traffic. YouTube was one of those affected.

What a crazy world we live in!

So , it usually takes 2 hours to load a 15 minute video ??
      That's ok.
If that's the way it is.
I was just wondering if it was normal.
      I've never done it before.
So , I was wondering if I was doing something wrong.

Youtube has slowed down in the last month or so but 2 hours for a video is crazy unless you have slower internet. When it is loading slow I will reload the page and see if its any better. Another thing that works sometimes is clicking HQ/HD, its loaded quicker than SD at times.

Ok , I'll try reloading or refreshing the page.
      Or try HD.

Jeff, are you uploading a *.avi file, or a *.wmv file? Do you know it's size or if it got compressed before you uploaded it?

15 min of raw video footage could be 4Gig of data.

It's an AVI file from the 2GB card from my GoPro camera.

      The file size says 548mb...

I loaded the videos from the 2GB card to my computer first.
Then I uploaded it to YouTube.

The video was 15 minutes long so they rejected it.
They only allow up to 10 minute videos.
I'll have to edit it for time.
Hmmmmmm.. Now I'll have to figure that out.
      I'm such a bonehead..

Oh uploading, I thought you meant loading up videos. Uploading takes longer than loading up videos, with my connection it would take about the same time (bout 3 hours) to upload a video that big. Director accounts allow videos over 10 mins I believe.

I think YouTube is so slow because my son & his friends are out of school right now.

something seems amiss Jeff, but maybe it has to do with 'time of day' for the upload.

I just did a small file and averaged about 133kbytes/second. The math for your attempted upload is closer to only 60kbytes/second. (assuming the numbers are valid given the "unallowed" 15 min video length)

I'll admit I have a real good Internet connection, but I think you should be doing better than you are if you have cable, not DSL or any "Lite" offering.
