      Need Some LS1 info

I found a local LS1 out of a 98 TA, minus accesories and intake for dirt cheap (read: under a grand). My question revolves aruound if it's better to get a motor that is totally complete, or is missig some things going to overall increase the cost due to these items being expensive to buy on their own? I know very little about the LSx motors, but want one for my 70 Camaro. I thought I'd probably swap the intake anyway and need different accessories as well, so these items missing wouldn't be a problem. I wanna go the 6 sped route as well, so do I need to find a motor that was originally mated to a 6 speed? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Complete 98 LS1's are dirt cheap. You can usually find low mileage engine/tranny combos complete with accessories and ECM for around $2000 or less.

97/98 LS1's are not as popular as the later years due to the heads and ECM.

The 98 and early 99 had some potential oiling problems. I have a article from Hot Rod ( I think) that gives a lot of info. I will try to find it. I can fax it to you if you want. Randy

I put together my engine from a used shortblock. Sourcing parts is not fun nor cheap! Get a complete pullout and be done!
