www.richmondgear.com has PDF's with the exploded view and parts list, which would be a good start.

I'm acquiring one and just like to have reference material just in case and to under stand the internals. Is there and easy way to inspect the internals without turning it into a project?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to check the inside. My 4+1 is just over 20 years old and hasn't been apart yet. What I did when I got it was to turn it by hand in each gear and neutral, feeling and listening for anything odd or rough. Can't see much through the fill plug either.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding mine. I picked up these manuals, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Doug-...1%7C240%3A1318. They are helpful but so is Richmonds web site and tech support which is free.
Here's what my DN 4+1 looks like right now:

I saw those manuals and was skeptical. Are legible and worth the 12.50 since they are copies? I'm not expecting problems with this unit I'm getting, but would like to have some reference material for future reference.

From what I've read, the only difference between the road race versions and the street versions are the syncros. this correct or am I missing something.
