      What would you do?

I got a 69 chevelle with a 496 that I am building. I have a TH400 tranny for it but would prefer overdrive. I want it to be able to do autocross and roadcourses. What tranny would be ideal to put behind a 650hp big block and do good on street, strip and roadcourse? Should I do manual or auto? I am open to suggestions both expensive and cheap. Should I pony up a little extra and do a 700R4 or put my 400 in for now and save for XXX?

4L6xE or 4L8xE... and paddle shift it.

The 2004-R is much stronger than the 700R-4... and three speeds are a waste if you plan to drive it on the street and freeways for any length of time with the appropriate rear final gear.

But then again... I like six forward speed, manual gear boxes and I'm not afraid to use my left leg.

No 4L6xe!!! I have blown up 2 4L60e, 1 4L65e and now on my first 4L70e and that is behind a 340hp LSX..
