      Cut outs

Anyone runing cut outs on their car? Do they help out in the power department? What kind of gains should I see and is it worth the money? Running a fast burn 385 with hot cam kit its good for 425hp.

Have exactly the same engine as you. Have 3 " Pypes exhaust and quicktime electric cutouts. Sound is fun but not for long. Regarding the power I just read and article in either Hot Rod or Hotrodding, they dynoed a car with them and the gains where not very big, some places they even lost power compared to a system without them.
Another problem for me is clearance to the ground and finally one of my motors just broke down. Since I live in France, where they are not available, I opened it up and discovered a lot of moisture inside.
Easy enough to order a new motor unit but not sure if I am going to keep them.

I have DMH 3.5s on my car angled right out of the header. I'd say there feels like a gain at the big end, but it's minimal on these types of chassis. Guys with late Camaros make good power with them due to the factory Y style exhaust sucking so badly. The noise is cool so mine are staying.

Answer is the usual "it depends" as some will see a decent gain and others won't. On a chassis dyno I found that when I opened up my 3 " Warlock mufflers I picked up 22 hp and 24 ft lbs of torque. I made 435 rwhp and 495 rwtq (SAE corrected) with the mufflers open and 413/471 with the mufflers closed. Exhaust is 1.75" headers into 3" all the way to the tail pipes, with a Dr Gas 3" x-pipe and 2.5" tailpipes. Seems the Warlocks and/or tailpipes are not the most efficient. I have recently added 3" RaceReady electric cutouts and quieter Dynomax mufflers but have not been on a dyno with the new parts. I mainly added the electric cut outs so I would not have to crawl under the car at the track after a night of racing. Just flip a switch and go home.

I have 1.750 headers through QTP 3" cutouts and a Pypes 3" exhaust dumping out of the mufflers. I just had the car on the Dyno two weeks ago for tuning and this is what we found out. I gained about 22 hp with the cutouts open, but I also lost almost 30 lbft of torque. The only time I open the cutouts is when pulling into a cruise or show. It's always an attention getter especially since G bodies normally do not draw much attention anyway. I get a lot of folks coming over just to see what was making all the noise and from there they really start to look at the car and the work that has been done to it.
