Fuel Tank Advice..Stock tank with EFI setup?

I am installing an EZ EFI setup in a couple of weeks on my 68 FB, and I purchased the master kit which comes with fuel lines/filter/external pump, etc. I don't want to purchase a new tank, especially since my pump is external (with the kit), but I'm concerned about how to do the return line back to the tank. I was thinking of just adding an AN fitting, but don't know where in the tank this should be placed, or I could purchase a new sending unit that has a return line built in (most A/C cars had this). The second concern is fuel starvation. I've never baffled a tank, but don't mind trying, just don't know if it is necessary, or how exactly to do it. Any advice. I've seen the threads about the spectra tanks, and Ricks, but can it be done right without buying new? Thanks

Hard acceleration or cornering adds more baffle / sump requirements due to fuel sloshing around. Interrupt fuel to the pump and the engine will stall. Decide what type of driving you'll do with the car and go from there.

use your stock tank just put sump in it.

Has anyone used anything like it? Do you think it would work? I'm guessing you leave it raised above the floor of the tank to form the sump its pretty deep.

Thanks for the info, I will probably sump the tank, and see how it goes, I was looking for an easy inexpensive solution, and so far this appears to be the way to go. Is anyone using a low pressure pump to fill a small can, and then having the high pressure pump pull from the can?

I've not done that personally, but I've read others are feeding a surge tank like you describe with success.

x2 for the surge tank, that is what I am trying next. I have 2 sumped tanks in 2 different cars, and they are no good for spirited street driving with under 6 gallons in the tank (18 gallon tank)

just tap your return line into the top of the tank and let it free flow. putting it at the bottom of the tank can create negative pressure on the return.

Oh, ok... that's the spectra fuel tank. I didn't realize that.

I had a friend that did that... He put a fuel pump "sock" on the end of the line. I was told he can run it near empty with no problems.

I respectfully disagree. Every factory in tank set up has the return buried in the bottom of the tank next to the pickup.

If this causes a negative pressure situation as you say, what happens when the tank is completely full?

I think the system will work both ways. Mine just dumps in the fuel filler. Works great, but now I'm fighting a fuel smell problem when it's parked. My Dad seems to think the pick up should be buried.

I used a stock fuel tank and added a return line into the stock fuel line and gauge insert in the tank. I just brazed a 3/8 stainless line with a 90 degree bend on the bottom of it. I am using an external fuel pump and have done some spirited driving with it. I have never been below 5 gallons in the tank and have never had a starvation problem. Fuel pressure has never dropped. Just my experience. My cornering has all been short hard corners, never any long sweepers so the fuel maybe has not had enough time to move away from the pickup.

if it helps anyone, i have a 67-68 tank on ebay with a competition engineering 4041 sump welded on for around 100 bucks.

that would probably work pretty well... I can't weld to well, so I'm thinking about using Rock Valley's tank.
