      Need Larger Alt! 1St GEN.

      Now that I have installed my MARK VIII Fan my alternator cannot keep up. Installed it yesterday and there were several times the car would barely have enough juice to crank. I still have the factory 63 amp alt and I knoe it is the culprit. I there not a larger 3 wire that will go in the place of the factory? Or do I need to go and get my alt rebuilt to be larger and still be 3 wire?

      IIRC you can go to a cs-130 from the later models. they go up to 130A. they are usually set up for the serpentine belt system, but if the direction of rotation is the same you should be able to just switch the pulleys.

      I think I am just gonna order a 3-wire Powermaster 100 amp alternator. Surely that will solve my problem. Does anyone know if the voltage regulator can handle a larger atlernator then factory? If not what do you do when you move to larger alternators? Also is it that hard to change over to a 1-wire alternator? I have used the search and have not found a simple answer!

      You should eliminate the stock voltage regulator and upgrade the charging wire from the alternator to the horn relay and from the relay to the battery.

      Don't go to a 1 wire alternator, they don't charge as well at low speeds, don't have the sensor wire which is very beneficial.
      The sensor wire tells the alternator what the voltage is at the horn relay. The horn relay is a major power distribution lug for a first gen Camaro. You want 14.7v at that place in the system, and the sensor wire will make that happen. The 1 wire setups just internally connect the sensor wire to the output lug of the alternator which isn't where you are connecting your accessories or fan.

      Ok thanks. Have you looked at the link above where the guy shows loopin the two outer wires on the voltage regulator together and just cutting the two center wires and using a CS-130 alternator ? I am thinking of doing just as this guy has it layed out in the link the guy provided! a 100 amp has go tto be better thent he 60 amp I have now! What do you think of this? Also I have the ground and the positive for my new fan coming off the battery! Was this the best way? Sorry for my ignorance guys I am not the best when it comes to wiring stuff but want to learn.

      Do not use CSI130 use a CSI 144 the 130 will only go to 105 maxed out and the 144 can go to 120-140amps. Cross the old AC Delco 312-411 as this is the one i HAD ON MY 70 mONTE WHEN i UP GRADED STEREO.
      I could about 3 month ago get one for a little over 100 bucks and that was an AC Delco reman.

      Does the CSI-144 bolt up the same and the same size? "Cross the old AC Delco 312-411 " Do you know of a vehicle this was used in so that I get the right size? I appreciate the help also!
