Interesting. I may have to check on that once I get my 79 rolling. I was planning on C5 brakes. For the time being, I was also planning on putting my 96 WS6 rims on the car since that car doesn't really roll any more.

About how much does a complete c5 brake conversion cost? I also plan on hydro boost from possibly an astro van. Seems to be the hot ticket.

Depends. There are cheap ways to do it and only cost around 5-600. I plan to run Kore 3 hubs because they kick so much a$$. So my costs will be slightly higher. I'm not sure what you'll need in terms of a master cylinder or proportioning valves though. I need to check into that myself.

I read that you can use a newer s10 master cylinder and you could probably just get an adjustable prop valve couldn't you? 5-600 aint to bad for that set up, is that finding stuff used on ebay or something?

I think I can get my calipers cheaper since I am setup with my local GM dealer as a business. If not, I know where to go.

That tail panel is one of the worst Ive seen. Mine was not as bad so I made patchs since no one makes them for the 79-81 cars yet. The lt1 t56 combo fits but is very tight around the reverse solinoid and the shifter location interferes a little with one of the floor supports. Im sure you know you need a custom crossmember and a new shorter ds. Here is a pic of my 79. Keep the pics coming.

Thanks for the info. Yea that tail panel was trashed. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I let the old girl sit outside way to long and ohio winters don't help.I probably would've found a nicer body if this wasn't my first car, but what the heck it's only metal! Do you have stock body mounts? I plan on using the solid mounts and dropping the body 1/2". I will of coursebe mocking it up before I get to carried away but I was just curious.Your project looks pretty cool!

I got a coupon for 25% off at year one so I thought I would buy the 17x9 snowflakes. Wrong. They are now discount exempt. Imagine that. I should've bought a couple months ago for 6 hundred and something shipped with the discounts. That sucks!

Even w/o the discount they are still bargain price IMO. I bought a set (with a discount) for $639 to my door... but would have gotten them even at full price. Beautiful wheel for a gen2 Bird.

My body mounts are solid and I do beleive they are 1/2" drop. They were on the car when I bought it but they look mush smaller than the stock height ones I had on my 81. Good luck with snowflakes. Im still trying to build my courage up to spend that much money on wheels and tires.

Those are probably the wheels I'll buy anyway. I wish they made them a little wider for the back two though. I think it would look really good in the original color of nocturne blue with those wheels in silver. For the price you can't beat em though. I just want to make sure they will clear the C5 brakes.

YO is trying to figure out if the C5 brakes fit behind them too. They are currently trying to get someone with C5s in the Atlanta area to come down and allow them to use their car to test fit.

I guesss I'll keep my eyes peeled and keep checking on the year one site. I doubt I'll get a comparable look for the money. Those cars need a wheel like that imo. I just don't think the typical five star looks right on them. To each their own though. I myself like the cars with the original 15" snowflakes but I just don't think the ole 255 60 15's are going to get it performance wise!

      update!

I know it's been a while but hopefully I can finally stay on track for a while and at least get the metal work done, get it blasted and in primer. Then I can get into the mock up stage.I just got that ratty tail panel replaced and had to still rebuild the upper corners but its turned out alright. It has some dents that need attention but is in great shape otherwise for an ohio tail panel. It came off a 79 400 4 spd s/e I had to sacrifice for the project.( s/e car was otherwise a complete basket and had been hit hard and fixed very bad).I also started getting passenger quarter all patched up and did away with the marker lights. What do you think aboutthat subtle little body mod? I think it will really clean up the body and have never cared for those side markers. Other than that it will remain considerably stock appearing. The whole family thing really slows down the progress.....but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Looks good. I do have to admit that I like the side marker light though. I'm thinking of slimming mine down to a single bar instead of the split lights. Maybe I'll see about grafting the 1st gen arrowhead onto the panel. Nothing will happen any time soon though. Keep up the good work.

Well I was finally sick of working around the nasty undercoating so I saturated it with gasoline and hit it with a steam pressure washer. Now all I gotta do is finish the metal work, and sand blast it and she'll be ready for some primer! I know it's slow but it is coming along!

Mini tubbing done on drivers side. Now I need to fix the frame rail which may include plating them in 10 gauge like fletcher did on old flames 71 bird. I will also make new heavy gauge spring pockets or 4 link mounting points....not yet decided. Front drivers toe board all repaired, now I need to get my drivers floor pan and the whole drivers side will about be ready for finally blasting and cleanup,(once I get passenger side done of course). Also, how do some people have so many attachments? It said I wasn't allowed any more and had to erase old ones to put more up, thus getting rid of all the progress to the thread. Just curious.

so you minitubbed the car without cutting into the rear frame rails? How much room did you gain from that?
