Daily Driver Help. Honda Content Warning

Seeing as how the section description states "all types". I thought I would probe you more knowledgable folks about my issue.

So I was helping a friend put a transmission in his prelude, and actually putting the transmission in was no problem in itself.

The issue is that when you shift from inside the car you can't hit 1st, 3rd or 5th. If you manually manipulate the cables/ levers at the transimission it will go into all gears. (mind you the car is still partially disassembled, axles still out, slave needs bled...)

This leads me to believe the issue lies within the shift lever itself or the cables. I don't have much manual transmission experience, so I would appreciate any advice.
