      Trans Am Series Returns !

The SCCA has restarted the Trans Am Series this year !

The first race is at Road Atlanta March 21 and 22nd..
      I'm going !

      Here's the schedule so far:

March 22, 2009: Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga. (all day)
April 19, 2009: VIRginia International Raceway, Alton, Va. (all day)
May 17, 2009: Mosport International Raceway, Canada (all day)
May 31, 2009: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, OH (all day)
June 14, 2009: Portland International Raceway, Portland, Ore. (all day)
July 12, 2009: Watkins Glen Intl, Watkins Glen, N.Y. (all day)
September 20, 2009: Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI (all day)

And they have an 8th event yet to be announced.

I think everyone should attend the Trans Am races in their area.
If the series does good , maybe the SCCA will reinstate the production car rules.
At this time , SCCA will be racing with the GT-1 ( tube chassis ) cars that they used in the last version of the series.
So maybe they'll get the series back to what it was from '66 to '74 and we can see production cars out on the track.

Like the new Camaro , Mustang , and Challenger !

very cool.....well into our 20s and 30s we would never miss the Trans Am weekend at Mosport, loved it. We thought it was the bomb in the early 90s when Ford, Chevy and Dodge all had factory teams.....hopefully it will return to its former glory.

This is a good thing. I do wish they'd gone with a production format, but I'll never complain about the availability of MORE road racing.

They are gonna' be racing the tube- chassis purpose built racecars ( GT1)that they used in the 90's ( for now ).
These will probably include the Mustang Cobra , Camaro Z28 and
      others from the era.

They'll probably phase in some NEW Camaros , Mustangs , and Challengers in the next year or two.. ( I hope )

      Wow.

Maybe even a Firebird Trans Am of all things will enter the competition.

Maybe they'll add some more dates , if the turnout is good.
Remember , if you read about the "original " 60's trans-am series , it started with less races and they had to add more because it became more popular..

The return of trans am is really just a rebranding of GT-1 with provisions for the old AGT/TA cars to come out of moth balls. I wouldn't expect any new body styles.

If you're looking for something similar to the "good old days", ie production chassis ,NASA AIX is about as close as you'll get. SCCA A-sedan is still in the mix as well.

Now if you want the actual 'good old days" just go to the next SVRA meet and watch Group 6. It's the best show on four wheels.

Well , the race was great !
      Fast Cars !
Plus there was the regular SCCA club groups running as well.
      Greg Pickett won the Trans-Am.

      I saw Brent Walker there.
We had a good time hanging out and watching the races.

They were pretty cool to see live , but the in car camera footage is great.
You get to hear the high revving engine a little better.
I love the quick upshifts and down shifts.

What I love the most about that picture is the Porsche 914 (or 914/6? Can't tell..) out back... getting stuck in!

That's awesome... 914's are ugly as sin, but oh so cool.

      And that video... YUM.
