      5 speed Q?

      I have an 81 malibu with a very mild 305 in need of a trans(was originaly a 3 speed manual,swapped to a 4 speed,which went south)
I going to put a five speed in it.The question is which one will work best? Will a five speed from a 4th gen 6cyl car bolt up to a standard sbc?How about a t5 from a s10?
I really don,t need a TKO or a t56 nor can i afford either.KInda like the idea of the 5 speed from a 4th gen.
      Any help is good help.

Avoid any 4 or 6-cylinder T5's, they won't hold up, even if they will bolt up (not sure if they will). The T5 from a 83-92 Camaro/Firebird would be the better choice with 87-92 being the better transmission. Here is a link to putting a 5 speed in a G-body: http://www.garage-scene.com/t5-into-ag-body/
I used to have a 79 El Camino 304 4 spd Saginaw, and I was stopped by at least 6 Monte Carlo SS owners wanting to buy the entire manual trans setup out of my car. They wanted it cheap though.

The t-5 from a 4th gen V6 is fine as well, but it has a Ford bolt pattern with a Chevy input shaft. You could also consider a Mustand T-5 and a Quicktime bellhousing. The tranny would be cheep enough to justify the expensive bell.

A third option is a T-45R from Keisler, it should be a bolt in and plenty strong for your V-8

My thoughts exactly. We have a new offering called the T45 RS which is based heavily on the T56 6 speed sharing some of the same internal components and the silky smooth single rail shift system.

With this trans, you can retain your current bellhousing and clutch. This trans is a huge leap forward from a strength and technology standpoint compared to the T5. Rated at 325 or 425 hp depending on the model, either one will more than handle your 305.

whats the cost, say for the 325 hp model?A saginaw was there before. What about linkage issues?I was kinda thinking about killing two birds with one stone on the 4th gen idea.If i could find a wrecked on that the interior was good.i could use that im my camaro and the trans in the malibu.
Beleive me, i would love to get the keisler trans but it may be out of my price range currently.
      Thanks fellas

PM sent. The T45RS kits are very affordable and thats why we have developed this package. The TKOs and T56s are great trannies but they are not for everybody.
