      Lower engine

Does anyone know if there is a company that makes engine mounts that will lower my engine, or mods to change the stock ones. I am going back to a stock hood (from a 4" cowl and 4" air cleaner), and i need as much room for an aircleaner as possible. right now ill have about 1/2 inch, if any, from the top of the choke horn to the hood.

i heard from somwhere that if you cut off the tabs on the frame mounts where the engine ears sit on, you can drop it a bit.

i dont think lowering the engine 1 or 2 inches will affect the drivline angle too much and everything else should be ok.

the vehicle is a 87 Camaro with a carb 350

      opinions?

You will be opening a can of worms, you just have to figure what problems it will cause. 1-2 inches will cause driveline angle problems, oil pan clearance?, hoses, wiring,

there is about 1.5" between the bottom of the pan and the crossmember, and any hoses or wires are long enough to go an extra inch. and the fan is electric. if need be, i can also fab something up to lower the transmission if it needs an inch or so.

If that is the case you should be fine. You will need to bring the tail shaft down on the tranny. That may require a custom crossmember depending on your set up.(Not familiar with your car) Fabricating mounts is probably going to be your biggest obstacle.

i did some more investigating, i found the right combo of base, filter and lid, i think this, along with some hood brace trimming will do the trick. thanks for the advice.

The air filters with the top mesh will help it breath with a shorter air cleaner. Keep in mind any type of cough or backfire make it much easier for an engine fire. I always carry a fire extinguisher but make damn sure you do if you go with a mesh top.
