      One Wire Alternator POS!

Anybody experience overvoltage like 16+ volts once excitation occurs (2500 RPM).

Thing stays off until I blip throttle then it excites, but pulses between 14 -16.5+ volts with all lamps flickering.

      Any ideas?

Thing looks pretty but works like a turd.

Sounds to me like the voltage regulator is not doing its thing.

make sure you have a good ground between the engine and frame.

Check your grounds....if it still spikes, change it out pronto. The voltage regulator is not working most likely. I had this happen and it burnt out my digital dash and MSD box.

Yep, some are garbage but see if you have a loose or dirt in your recifier or a crack in your thermal ceramic bolt grommet.

I've had this problem before and it drove me nuts for days, I replaced everything twice. It turned out that the connection between the regulator and the plug going into the regulator were loose and making a poor connection.

One other thing to think about, the regulator sends excess voltage to chassis ground. If you've got a bad ground between your block and frame, the excess voltage is going to find the path of least resistance, which may be back into the charging path.

Thanks for all the input. I ordered a one-wire kit from $ummit and R&R the inerds. Shes working OK now.

I did not notice anything burnt, loose, or cracked so I suppose it was an electronics failure.

In my opinion as a an diag tech and electrical specialist one wire alternators should be outlawed.
You only need the small wire of the normal SI plug wired to 12 v key on (that wont back feed to ignition or car wont shut off or you will need a 400PIV 25v diode inline) and simply loop the larger wire to battery terminal on back of alt.
My personal favorite is newer CSI133/CSI144 alt with similar wiring. if you want warning light its simple just pm or email me at [email protected]
