Rear axle UCA mount bushing size, 64 Chevelle

Hi,

I received new rear upper control arm/axle bushings yesterday. They are to big... The most probable reason is because I don't have the standard 64 Chevelle axle, I've got a second gen Camaro 8,5" 10 bolt. I was so sure that the guys who installed the axle control arm mounts had used the ones from the original axle but somehow that seems to be wrong. The rest of the mounts for the LCA's, springs and shocks are placed and look exactly like the original 64 axle.

The old bushings measured 1 11/32" and the new bushings 1 13/16". Both measurements were at the middle of the bushing. I have no other choice than to order a new set of bushings, BUT I have to figure out what part to order first. I have attached a few images to help out.



Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Nobody have any clue what part I need? I can't find the right part at summit with certainty since they don't list the size, only application

Maybe those mounts are for a Pontiac , Olds , or Buick.
Maybe the heavier , bigger cross-brand cars had bigger bushings ??

Hi, Marcus is actually they guy I ordered these from Since he's a knowledgable guy my first thought was that the guys who modified the Camaro axle from leaf to 4-link didn't use the 64 mouting ears, but I just found this info on the net:

It's at the end of the "REAR END HOUSINGS" chapter, stating:

"Rear upper control bushing eyes differ, and the positioning of the bushing eyes will differ. 1968-72 rearend housings will have a 3/8" forward positioning, which is farther that 1964-67 rearends.

1964 was the only year that the rearend bushing are small, and any upper trailing arm (from any GM division) will fit 1964 rearend housings."

DAMN! Just my bad luck again it seems First I can't get the correct idler arm and now this... the 1964 model year is a real pain to get the right parts for. Well, at least now I know why they didn't fit

Are your new bushings poly? If so, maybe you get the bushings turned down and fitted into the old shells. Are the new bushings long enough if you can?

I had the same issue with Dad's 64 gto. Go to Chevelles.com forum and use search feature, I found the ones I needed in rubber. It turns out a bushing from a honda accord is the perfect fit. I cant remember what # though, less than 20$ at autozone.

Good idea, but the shells was pretty much destroyed when I removed them, I had to use quite a bit of force. I found a complete kit from Energy Suspensions in poly, but it was excluding the outer shell, they would have to be pressed into the shell.

Luckily I found new ones at autozone for cheap, rubber though.

Thanks, I wrote at thread about this on chevelles.com last night and got great replies there telling me the same thing. They're almost $40 at napa, but only $5.50 at autozone

Seems like I have to give up getting them in poly though, but it might not be such a big deal. If it was then I could buy the rubber ones and turn the new (to big) ones down to fit in the shell.

I've recently discovered that Southwest Speed sells this bushing (and a lot of others) in rubber, nylon-on-steel and steel-on-steel variations. I just ordered the nylon version: http://www.southwestspeed.com/?sec=view_part&id=23969

*CHEVELLE, MONTE CARLO, EL CAMINO, & MALIBU: FRONT (66-72 2ND DESIGN; CHECK MEASUREMENTS) & FRONT (73-74)
*CAMARO: FRONT (67-69) & FRONT (70-79 WITH 1/2" I.D. HOLE)
*IMPALA, CAPRICE, BEL AIR, & BISCAYNE: FRONT (73-74 WITH 1/2" I.D. HOLE)
*CHEVY II & NOVA: REAR (68-72)

Luckily GM used the same bushings for a lot of other applications so it should be no problem getting them from other sources either, but I figured nylon-on-steel is a better choice than poly anyway.
