Need Drop Spindle help!

I am currently restoring my 68 Firebird's front end suspension and I have a question about drop spindles. I have been told that when installed they will cause a tie rod to rim clearance issue with most diameter rims. Are there any new generation drop spindle manufactured that remedy this issue, or is it still ongoing. Should I just purchase lowering springs and a good pair of shocks? Will this create the same lowering effect? If so, what brand lowering springs and shocks are recommended? Oh, I almost forgot, I am looking to add 17 in rims in front, don't know how wide though...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
