Building rear frame rails. Suggestions on tube?

I'm going to be starting on the rear frame rails soon.....hopefully. My thoughts were kinda this. I can get 2x2x1/8 or 1/4 square tube for cheap. I was thinking of stacking two to make 2x4x1/8th or 1/4

I think it would also make it stronger with the two sides being welded together in the middle.

I can get a 20ft stick of the tubing for like $30-50

I'm going to be making the rear frame rails from the floor, up around the wheel well and straight back.

I kinda thinkn just one 2x2x1/4 tube would be enough b/c the stock frame rail is only 1/8th or 3/16th thick at best.

      Thoughts?

An idea of what I was thinking, but I will start lower before it starts to curve up to the top of the wheel wells. I need to move them in maybe 2".

      Off topic,
But what brand are those wheel tubs? Are they Autoweld?

      Thanks

They are either Team Z motorsports of Wolfe Racecraft. They are Mustang Fox-Body specific.

The boys at Art Morrison use 2x4 for most of their stuff. They do make 2x3 setups, but recommend the use of a roll cage to keep the body stiff.

I guess I'm confused by what you're doing. It appears you have frame rails in place already, unless if you're in mockup stage right now. I must be missing something.

I would not stack 2x2 tubing. And one 2x2 is definetely not enough, not even close. Use 2x4x0.120 and make sure it's of good quality.

Just be glad you don't have first gen Camaro rear rails. They're .045" thick.
