      Incredibly solid "Z" project

Well if you didn't see my post in the project update forum, project "My Turn" is a goner. The old girl was just too far gone and would have been way too expensive to repair. At least for me since my pockets have a bottom.

Anyway, I picked up a pretty cherry 1979 Z28. It is incredibly solid and will not require any panel replacement or structural repair. I was amazed how clean it really was when it arrived. Definitely money well spent. It's a beautiful shade of Beige (not) and is wearing it's original paint and decals. The interior is almost mint and only needs carpet and a package tray. She runs like a top but sadly the original Z motor was replaced long ago with another anemic 350 from the '70's. I am going to leave the driveline unchanged for now and do the car in stages.

First off will be paint. I have a few colors in mind, but I am open to suggestions so input would be appreciated.

Second will be wheels and tires. I'll probably go with 18's and may massage the seat belt pockets out of the way to stuff some larger meats under the rear.

The rest will be done as time and budget permit.

Oh.... and I still haven't decided on a name for the project yet. I've already started tearing her down. The wife will also be involved in this one since she has really expressed a desire to help.

Man white with some sort of a black hood stripe and black wheels would look killer. Forgelines are my favorite but big bucks!

      Tear-down has begun

I continue to be impressed by this Camaro. I removed the interior, door glass and trim, spoiler and grilles today. This car is truely untouched other than a very old repair I found. It looks like it may have even been a factory repair or pre-delivery repair. It appears the RH door skin was replaced and the RH quarter has a small repair area right behind the door. The car shows no signs of a repaint or mask lines anywhere. The door skin was sprayed the same as the rest of the car. I know from experience that sometimes vehicles sustain damage at the factory or prior to delivery. These types of repairs are more common than people think. This car showed no evidence of a respray anywhere.

When I removed the carpet, the underlayment was clean as are the floors underneath. This car even still had the additional factory heat insulation underneath the underlayment and it is as nice as the day it was put in.

I love discovering the history of the cars I disassemble. This one is coming apart with simple hand tools and very little effort. I wish they all were this easy.
