Ls7 with an Automatic options with Cruise Control

I have a 69 Camaro in the planning stages. Already have a ls7 out of a z06 and plan to mate it to an automatic. Talked to John at Speartech about a harness. He told me the only transmission he has been able to have cruise control behind a ls7 was a 4l70e.
I was wandering if anyone had any other better options. I really like the compushift option with paddleshift, but I think I like cruise control better. Was wandering if I can have it all?
Knew a guy with a bunch of new GM 4l70e units with converters for $1200. So I bought one. Now I would like to upgrade the transmission with the necessary parts to make it a little more likely to live behind the ls7. Wanted some recommendations of which parts to replace. Also interested in some recommendation on a converter. I'm not a racer, so not looking for this aspect.
      Thanks Tim

      Hi Tim,
Lets start with the converter. You got a great price for trans and converter. A custom matched converter is a very important part of getting a pro-touring auto right. It needs to be tight for part throttle cruising but still let your LS7 spin when you nail the throttle. Additionally, our converters have oversized lock up clutches and billet front covers that allow for greater lock up control. The stock converter that you have is too tight. It will satisfy part throttle function, but will fall short as rpm and power are applied.
As for Compushift vs Speartech, it's more a question of Compushift trans control vs. OE trans control thru a GM ECU.
OE trans control does not allow for manumatic shifting. For that you need an aftermarket controller such as Compushift which is the best working, easiest to install product on the market. But can you have both paddle shifting and factory cruise? Ask Speartech, if he is able to supply cruise control to his manual trans customers. If the answer is yes, then you can have both. Order your Speartech kit as though you are running a T56. Compushift is standalone. So we can lie to the ecu by telling it that you have an M6 and still control the trans separately.
I want Speartech to provide you an M6 harness with redundant wires for TPS and VSS to simplify your installation (no wire splicing) I will call John at Speartech today to confirm.
If you want, pm me your phone number and I will call you after I speak with John.
      Thanks
      /Steve

I spoke to John. You might need to choose between cruise control or a paddle shifter. On an M6 car, cruise control goes thru the body module--not the ecu. So a Speartech M6 kit cannot have cruise control. On an A4 kit, cruise control goes thru the GM ECU, but there is no manumatic capability. Confused?
      So...
Plan A: Cruise control: Order Speartech kit for A4. Trans control will be handled thru ECU, so no manumatic control (padde shifter)

Plan B: Paddle Shifter: Order Speartech kit for M6 car. Specify that you will be running a standalone trans controller and paddle shifter. Ask for redundant wiring (TPS, VSS, RPM). It's not necessary, but it makes for a cleaner, easier harness installation. But no cruise control.

Both: If you want both, follow Plan B and then install aftermarket standalone cruise control like this:

I didn't read thru the Rostra information, but it looks pretty cool actually. I'll read up on it tonight.

Bringing back an old thread, but are there any LS2 DBW with paddles and cruise control out there?
