Original SHO (Super High Output) V/6 Taurus was a sweet-singing engine that would rev to the moon and was voted one of the best engines of it's time...it's too bad in those days, the car didn't live up to the engine.

This new '10 model is far and away the quickest production sedan Ford has ever made...and I wouldn't consider it a rental car.
I just watched Ford's introduction this morning at the Chicago auto show and here's the specs:

      365hp twin-turbo Eco-boost w/350 lb ft torque
      AWD standard
6-spd select-shift w/full manual mode and steering wheel paddle activation
      True-dual exhaust w/chrome tips
      Adaptive cruise control
      19" wheels/tires

      Available SHO Performance pkg:
      Performance brake pads
      EPAS calibrated steering
ECS Track Mode w/true OFF mode
      3.16 final ratio
20" premium wheels w/performance summer compound

Base price has been set at $37,995 and the order bank is open guys...

If an Accord and a Camry had a kid, they would call it Taurus. Looks like the two put together.

not saying the new one looks like a rental car, but thatd be pretty sweet if it was. I'd rent it for the day.

There is also the Taurus X which may be considered a SUV/crossover of some type or I guess you could say some sort of station wagon since it is based on the Taurus.

The G8 is a good looking, but the Taurus looks to be a better all around car. I think it's a bit larger, with more interior room. I also like the AWD option.

      Will there be a wagon?

A real wagon, not some crossover pseudo suv goofball thing.

Granted, I haven't seen a SHO in person but that G8 is a large car.. Bigger than my CTS. Seeing that you're from Maryland, I can imagine that AWD matters... Here in sunny Arizona, I could care less.

Is it? Wow... somehow it just doesn't "look" as big. Interesting.

I would have to go with the Taurus on this one.

Have any of the "bandwagoners" sat in or driven a G8? Not to hate on the car, but my friend has had a GT for around 7 months now; and it is a right-hand drive car with a steering wheel on the left. All of the controls for the a/c and what not are on the "other" side, and all of the controls you never touch are right next to you. And the transmission is pretty poor, even in "sport" mode. It may look great, but the lack of "americanizing" kills it for me. And you can't put two cups in the cup holders at the same time, they are to close together.

I don't consider the G8 to be a big car. It's only a foot longer than my mid-sized Nova!

The Taurus name has a lot going for it, as sales since Ford changed the name from Five Hundred have shown. This new Taurus looks good, I like it a lot. I hope it does well for them.... maybe I'll buy more Ford stock.

I think the Ford is much better looking. The poncho crap looks awful. GM should have left the Holden fascia and fenders.

That said, I'd probably be more inclined to BUY the G8 since it is RWD.

I like Audi's too, but I don't see the similarity.

I think it's based on the same platform (P2) as the Volvo S60 & S80, instroduced back at the turn of the century. C pillar is similiar to Audi
