Copper head gaskets
Can anyone give me feedback on the SCE Titian ICS gaskets on SBC with bosted engines.
I have used Cometics for some time on normaly aspairated SBC with great sucess. However, after getting into the V6 turbo Buicks, 3 out of 6 engines leak oil at boost. They hold the boost, but seep oil out of the galley.
Just got a twin turbo SBC running and was very supprised to see the same thing. Doesn't leak oil at cruise, but at only 10 lbs of boost, leaks oil at the block /head line.
The Titian ICS appears to be a great concept, but does anyone have first hand information?

yes i built an engine for a freind to was a 406 chevy with a vortec ysi 20lbs of boost never had any leaks but you must retorque after first warm up. every one on yellowbullit seem to like cometics so we were going to try them on 18deg. heads this year hope its not a mistake.
02-17-2009 #3I've used both the imprinted ones and the plain copper, on two different small blocks. The first used head bolts. the second uses studs. the combination of the copper gaskets and studs, even with the sealant imprinted gaskets still allows the slightest seepage of coolant up through the outer bolts during warm up. It is mostly the studs, and with GM sealing tabs in the coolant almost nothing leaks anymore. It is still frustrating. Never any other leaks.

02-21-2009 #4I'm in the process of retorquing my ally heads with SCE Titian ICS gaskets on a APR studded Procharged SBC. No leaks on warm up naturally aspirated. I'll let you know how I get on once I've put the motor together with the blower.
The blown FelPro 1003's were installed by a garage who didn't torque them correctly and used Loctite on the studs. Water got under the gasket into a cylinder. I've followed every sensible tip from the manufacturer, books, Yellow Bullet, Turboforums, Google, Youtube etc. If this fails there may be a very cheap old Camaro with to many mods for sale!
02-24-2009 #5I've had the SCE ICS gaskets and re-torque after warmed up. They ran one weekend cruising with no problems and leaked the next weekend. Tried re-torquing with no luck. In all fairness to SCE, I was running a 125 block finish.
I pulled the block and had it resurfaced to better then 50ra as recommended. (finished to 25ra) Put in Cometics with Permatex high tack spray and so far so good…
These new gaskets like very smooth finishes to seal properly.Ron DeRaad
