      Engine Questions!

      1) 11:1 Compression ratio is that able to run on 91 octaine?
      2) When you build an engine what was the breaking it in steps. Like when to change oil, re torque etc...?

      Thanks!

The 95 Trans Am I had (LT1, 10.5:1 cr, aluminum heads, reverse cooling, A/T) would spark knock on Quick Trip 93 octane in the summer. It did better with Amoco 93. Even confirmed this at the track. It ran 14.80's on QT and 14.40's on Amoco, just one week apart. Weather conditions were the same.

Now my El Camino is 11:1 with aluminum heads and it so far hasn't had any problems with knocking. It is running a slightly rich fuel mixture, which may be helping when under load. No problems cruising around. I believe that you may be pushing it on 91 octane without some sort of octane booster. Just my $0.02 worth.
