Anyone know dishwashers?

My ex just moved out and I have to start buying appliances. I have been looking at dishwashers and they seem to be priced on how quiet they are. This got me to thinking about buying a cheaper washer and wrapping it with Dynamat. Are there any cons to this? B---- took everything but the kitchen sink and the oven.

Second, as a home builder, I would not recommend wrapping a new dishwasher in anything, you would probably void the warrenty. However, that said, there is usually only fifty bucks or so difference in the bottom rung model vs. the next step or two up and those are plenty quiet. Don't get caught up with bells and whistles you will never use, on off and a timer is about all a single man needs.....lol

Ditto what Bill said. I recently bought a returned unit at OSH that was already a lower end model so the price was super low. Since we run it at night we don't hear it run, but it is not too loud even when run during the day. No bells and whistles and works fine.

I know a dishwasher or two. But they keep disappearing. And they don't speak English very well. And they keep talking about how they miss "home" and their "families"....

I ended up getting a Bosch one, it is really quiet and I am pleased with it.......I mean, my "dishwasher" is pleased with her "dishwasher" LOL!
Get a stainless tub and not a plastic one for sure. The heating element sometimes may get moved off its stands and melt a hole in the plastic ones.......ask me why I have a metal tub?! LOL!

Ask most guys this question and you'll get the "a dishwasher is a dishwasher" answer.....lol

Just go to Sears, Home Depot or where ever and get a decent one and be done with it. Good luck!

Looking at the DW from the outside in the store will tell you all you need to know. The quietest ones have a quilted blanket looking insulator draped over it. The cheap ones have fiberglass insulation. The ones with the quilted blanket usually are the high end very quiet models. I'd recommend a High end whirlpool or Maytag. (they're the same company now anyway, I think Sears owns them both.)

I dunno if you get them over there but we've got a Meile dishwasher. It is super quiet, does a great job and holds heaps.

I'm a high end kitchen installer and I install more Bosch DW than any other brand.

The difference between the quieter KitchenAid model (KUDS) and the less quiet one (KUDK) is about $50. This is on a ~$1000 dishwasher. We opted for the quieter one. You can have a conversation right next to it with it going full song and you wouldn't know it is on. I am guessing on less expensive models the price disparity would be proportionate.

When I built my house 7 yrs ago I bought the cheapest dishwasher Lowes sold. Let's just say I got my moneys worth. It works fine as long as you wash the dishes by hand before you load them into the dishwasher.

I recently purchased a Maytag unit. very happy with it - $699 with stainless tub, timer and a few bells/whistles. Not noisy at all plus as someone else stated - run it at night. Not loud enough to wake you and you save $ on electric.

I didn't think about the warranty issue, and I will look for the insulation that looks quilted. As to brands, I have read that Bosch is the best available in the US; the only thing that I know about Meile is that the make a good vacuum cleaner. I wouldn't even buy a dishwasher except that there is a huge ass hole in the cabinets where one used to be and I have to have something to wash dishes after all the guys come over for the UFC ppv's. I want to armbar that b----!

I need a new one too, I'm the manual dishwasher, but the "contractor" grade unit is NOISY, don't dare run it in the daytime. I want the kind you can stand in the kitchen and have a conversation, not turn it on and run out of the house, I hear Craigslist is a great place for appliances,

Not really!.....we had a Bosch, I don't remember the model # but you could still hear it, the wife didn't like it so when we remodeled the kitchen a couple of years ago we bought all GE profile aplliances and dishwasher......you literally cannot hear the GE at all!

Fisher & Paykel dual drawer - 1st, last and in between.

They use 2.5ga per cycle, internally heat the water to 160deg, have a junk trap to keep stuff out of your drains and no disposal to crap out.
