Timing, sbc
I installed a new top end on my sbc, now its hard to start, I thought I was a tooth off, but I am not, but once the engine is warm it starts ok...any advice?

sounds like a choke problem, this usually happens to a cold motor and once it heats up it runs better. Could be timing but if timing was off I don't think it would run better even after it warmed up.

it has a 750 dominator on it, I ran this carb with old setup, funny thing is the back plugs are wet(gas) and the front are dry.....it wants to fire so bad but it will not take off...

did you adjust the carb for the new setup?
work in progress--for the next 10 years.
1987 monte carlo ss 383ci, 9.7:1, xe274 cam, vortec heads, 200r4, 3.73 posi.

timing I think is around 38 or so. I cannot keep it running long enough to check, its starting to load up now. Will post later tommorow...

Check wires, plugs, dist. cap, rotor etc.

Are you sure that the rear plugs are wet with gas ?, with manifold swaps it is possible to have an oil leak in certain areas of the intake flange and it can sometimes be hard to determine if the plugs are fouled from gas or oil, if you can't find the problem using the above suggestions remove the manifold and look for leaking gaskets or oily ports, don't be afraid to reinstall the manifold with a thin layer of silicone on each side of the port. We test small blocks on the dyno quite a bit and run into this problem once in a while.

Did you double check your plug wires?
One build, I checked it twice on installation. Then for whatever reason my helper pulled two wires, and then when the were put back, they were swapped. Was scratching my head for a while because I was "sure the wires were correct."
