      Lt1?

I have ran across a new LT1 crate engine.I think it is the 96 97 model. The water pump is driven off the cam.Can this motor be ran with a regular dist. and how are the other acc. driven? Are they just driven off the Harmonic pulley?

If you modify the intake to allow a small cap distributor to be used it can be used. Other accessories are driven off the balancer as you stated, but are different than standard small block chevy parts.

lt1intake.com is a place that modifies them for regular dist.

GM did make an intake that fits on the LT1 that allows the use of a regular distributor & a carb. Not sure if it is still available though.

Quick check on summitracing.com shows it is still available, $260:

Unless you are getting one h#&& of a deal on it, why not just build a regular small block chevy?

Thanks again. The motor is still in the crate.Aluminum heads.I can pick it up for $1500.Just thought it would be a nice cheap motor for a driver.

Then you have to get the accessories, brackets & suck. Not cheap either. I think for the money I would go to the junk yard & get a Vortec head motor from a late 90's truck & have it built. I have seen these motors go for under $300.
