      headers

hooker 2451 hedman dports 68609. I have run both of these on a 73 camaro, the hookers are long tube and are low so I switched to the hedmans. Harley

Yes, you can run standard small block headers. No need to waste money buying D port headers. Flow analysis and dyno tests have been done and they show it makes NO difference between standard and D port headers on LT1 engines.

FYI - I put Hedman Elite mid-length headers on my Nova. Had to beat in one tube to clear the steering box (typical) but other than that they fit just fine.

Another vote for yes, I used dynomax ones. Getting ready to put throleys on (for better ground clearance).

I almost bought a set of pacesetter lt1 race headers today... Perfect that I found this post...

What do you do about the O2 sensors though and is it possible to modify the header ports to a D shape?

Performancewise I've always heard that long tubes are better, but a friend of mine who working with a professional drag racing team told me that a good designed shorty header can be pretty close to the long tubes.

I'm putting these in a 64 Chevelle, what headers do you guys recommend?

You just need to make sure that the primaries are large enough to cover the exhaust port. So,correct me if I am wrong, but 1-5/8" round port headers will not work, you need 1-3/4". If you go with 1-5/8" d-port, you're fine.

64, I would go with long tubes unless you can fab something yourself. A few of the modern cars have midlength headers available for them due to packaging issues in the chassis. These can work as well as long tubes as they are between a shorty and a long tube in design but I'm not aware of anything like that for an old school Chevelle. I would never go with a true shorty header unless you need it for packaging issues

I never seem to get around to order by headers. After a lot of reading I've figured out what I want:

      - Mid-length for ground clearance (my 64 Buick Skylark w/ Chevy SB and Long Tubes have problems although the car isn't lowered)
      - Ceramic coated (or similar)
      - D-port (or large enough to cover D-port).
      - Would prefer 1 5/8" primaries to get faster exhaust flow. Larger will probably hurt performance, at least low-RPM torque, for a normal 350 LT1.

Now, the problem is, where do I get these? It's close to impossible to search for anything that specific on Summit or anywhere else. Any recommendations?

Go online to the manufacturer itself and look through their online catologues, once you've found what you want go to Jegs online and look it up by part number i.e. Hooker pt # xxxxx. I have found stuff this way, you can find almost everything on the internet if you know how to ask for it, haha

Thanks, I'll give that a shot as well. I found this site that looks promising too: http://www.thermaltechcoatings.com/new_headers.htm
