      storing my car

      just want to make sure i store my car good enough so that she'll be easy to get back going when i get home. she'll be stored in a garage, and i will be gone for about a year. from what i've been reading, these are some things i need to take care of prior to my trip. can i leave the battery in the car since i have a battery disconnect right next to it? what do the dryer sheets do? anyone have any good recomendations for a good cover? feel free to tell me if something doesn't sound right, or if you have a better idea. thanks.

      1. Sta-bil in the gas tank
      2. top of fluids, fresh oil change
      3. plastic tarp underneath car
      4. placed on jack stands under suspension
      5. dryer sheets in car ??
      6. leave windows cracked for air flow
      7. good car cover
      8. disconnect battery

      anybody know of anything else i should take care of? thanks for the input. i'm hoping to be home in time for RTTHV next year. hopefully my car will be there as well this time...

      back of the rockers so your springs are at rest.
      deflate tires, make sure sun does not get on them
      will car be inside?

      yep, she'll will be in my garage. thanks for the tip about the rockers and deflating the tires. do you think it will matter if the car is on jack stands? i've heard different things about using them or not. thanks for the help.

      Dryer sheets are supposed to keep mice out. I would not leave deflated tires on the car,with the weight of the car on them. Take them off and stack them in a corner with cardboard between each of them and a piece under them on the floor.

      thanks for the reply...i wouldn't leave the tires deflated with the weight of the car on them. i had planned on putting the car on jack stands under the suspension, which would leave no weight on the wheels.

      I'd back the valve springs off. Someone once told me to pour a small amount of tranny fluid down the carb while running and it will lube the cylinders so no surface rust. Pull the carb and tape the intake??

      Just stuff I heard. BTW 1 year isn't too long.

      I was gone over there for about 7 months. The engine was dyno'ed right before I left, came back and put it in the car and farted around didn't fire it in the car until around the 9 or 10 month mark.
      All I did was prime the oil galleys with a rod and a DeWalt drill. She fired up fine.
      Your engine should be fine for 12 months. Just put fresh oil in before re-firing.
      Tire suggestions are good. Along with the dryer sheets I would do glue traps and anything else you can think of for the vermin, short of moth balls that is.

      You don't want to trap dead mice in the car. If you have even a place for them to get in at all. You have to have a bad car with a hole for them to get in and out and usually the smell of food. If you kill them in the car they will stink it up and it will be worse than the damage done from a bit of nesting. It's the engine compartment they like with the wiring and such to make nest.

      a years not that long, just want to take care of things before i go so when i get back things will hopefully go smooth to get her on the road.

      thanks for the idea Eddie, i'll have to definately remember to prime her back up. don't have too much of a rodent problem here.

      Jim, don't think i'll have too much problem with rodents, but i didn't think about the underhood wiring. Thanks...

      Being a friendly Pro-Tourng member bring the car to me. I would crank it once a week and maybe wash it too, problem solved. LOL
      All kidding aside hope you make it back in time for RTTHV.

      Thanks for the offer, it'd be nice to have someone keep my car clean for me while i'm gone. Maybe I should take you up on your offer, that way my car may be finished next time for RTTH's.
      Too bad your not closer.

      I'm hoping to be back in time for RTTHV, but won't know til it gets closer. Are you going to be able to bring your car this time? later...

      Man, I would not deflate the tires. that is probably worse than leaving it sitting on the tires. do you have old wheels/tires you can put on it to sit on and stack the current ones up int a cool dry dark place? Does the car need to roll/be able to be moved?

      i was thinking it would be ok to deflate the tires since i will be supporting the car on jackstands under the suspension. it doesn't need to be moved around, so that helps as well. unfortunately i don't have any old wheels and tires i could use.

      The reason to take the wt off the tires is to prevent flat spotting. If there is no wt on the tires I see no value in deflating them.

      I wil bring my 68 next year. I got most of the bugs worked out after I got home from RTTH4. The only thing I might do is power steering and a fresh coat of primer. I saw Matt having difficulties with the manual steering in the autocross.
      I have been trying to concentrate on my 69. I have cut the floor pans and started installing DSE subframe connectors. Then I will start the mini tub.

      Not sure if you thought of this, or if it's valid. You could put a couple of cedar blocks inside. That way to keep the moths out. Could be a dumb question, why do you put the jack stands under the suspension?
