Not a chevelle expert, but cars are cars. I'd start with better geometry, different spindle or upper control arm. I would aslo make sure your alignment is modern and geared toward handling. Drop springs will not only help your center of gravity but a set of adjustable shocks is a huge deal. Put as much meat tire wise as possible Hard to beat the wilwood brake pakcages from Prodigy Customs.

If you decide to use Hotchkis they have 10% off their web site + 15% with code gobblegobble sale ends monday (code also good on blem on thier garage section) will save you a couple more bucks.

I am running global west upper and lower control arms up front. Ats spindle with a c5 z06 brake set up. qa1 adjustables all the way around. rear I have hotchkis upper and lowers and their coils all the way.
control arms are also hotchkis. all energy bushings.

sc&c uppers, ats spindles, global west lcas for the front and a custom parallel 4 link with a watts for the rear. give mark at sc&c your credit card and address and just sit back and wait. it will be well worth it.

Search for "drop spindles" for a list of reasons you don't want to run them. What do you define as "mild budget"? What are your real goals for the car - autocross? driver?

Hows the current suspension? Worn out or is it OK. If it is worn out just replacing all the bushings and wear items would make a huge difference. For cheap drop springs look at circle track springs and adjusters from speedway motors or similar. If you want more, SC&C stage 1 kit upper arms and tall upper ball joint. For even more go with the stage 2 or 2+ kit and get the tall lower ball joint to go with the upper. If you want more still get the kit with the tall AFX spindle. What are your plans for brakes, tires and wheels?

The best thing you can do for your car is to correct the backward camber curve.

There are 2 options I'd look at with your goals and low budget.

      1) SC&C "Stage II+" (tall balljoints to correct the camber curve, and upper arms to fix the balljoint angles with the new corrected geometry) and some drop-springs to get the stance where you want it.

2)Heidts "Tall/Drop" spindle (2" drop, 1.5" taller to fix camber curve) with SC&C's uppers (again, to fix the balljoint angles with the corrected camber curve)

Performance advantage goes to option #1 due to the steer arm being moved upward with tall lower BJs, which eliminates most of the factory bumpsteer. Cost advantage goes to #2 but not by much... it may come out a wash either way if you need to replace the balljoints anyway.

The SC and C Stage II was probably the single most biggest improvement I ever installed on my Chevelle, give Mark a call and he'll help you out big time. I used Eibach Springs with good results, also a good set of shocks are worth there weight in gold. Later you can upgrade your box with either a Lee Rebuild, AGR or 600 series box. You will be amazed at the results, these cars can handle. Good Luck.

I guess I'll repeat to make your decision easier, sc+c has what you need. I run tall upper and lower ball joints, spc arms, factory lower arms, lee steering box, eibach springs, edelbrock shocks (not the best but work) 1.25 front sway bar.On the back Im using edelbrock boxed lowers and adj. uppers same shocks and 7/8 bar. Although I would use the currie arms instead if I did it over again. Brakes there are many companies, wilwood(thats what I have) baer, kore 3... I would run 13" front and 12" rear. Get 17's or 18's with good tires. You can fit wide tires on these cars I have 255 fronts and just bought some 315's fot the back. Hope this helps.
