      Hello I'm Gunner

      Hello

I'm Gunner, and I live in SW Missiouri. I checked out your board (it was linked to from a Trans Am site I'm on). Of course, the evening I tried to create an account, was also the evening this site got hacked, and I had to wait a few weeks. ANYWAY

      Here is my starting point

I had one of these before, when I was in high school. And yeah, I was a dumb kid who was harder on her than I should have been. But when she was beginning to show her age, I was planning on fixing her. All my freinds had muscle cars.........They'd run like a rocket, but corner like a tank. I wanted something different. Of course I wanted the power, but I wanted something more out of my machine too. I wanted it to corner and stop. This was in 1985, and I don't think pro touring was even around then.

Fast forward to now. I was lucky enough to get another chance. I picked up the white TA in the above picutes this may. All I've done to it is put a new windshield it, and a stereo. New wheels and tires are coming for Christmas. And my plan is still intact.

What I've got in mind for my car so far

      A 400HP Butler Performance Pontiac 400
A 6 Speed Corvette Manual Transmission
      Suspension Upgrades
      4 Wheel Disk Brakes
      Subframe replacment

Now, please notice that the last three are fairly generic objectives. I'm fairly handy with engines, but I have only VERY basic knowlege of suspension and breaking systems.

I guess thats why I'm here. You probably won't get much out of me, but, hopefully I can pick your brains, and you can help me out.

      Thanks
      Sim Taylor

Well for a 30 year old car, she's in good shape, and she's drivable. The interior is INTACT, not in the greatest of shape, but INTACT. The body has a little bondo in it, but nothing that can't be fixed. The engine runs, and doesn't burn any oil, but it's 30 years old.

Basicly, she's in good shape for what she is. I'm gonna make her better. Question is how do I go about doing it. As I said, subframes, suspension, and brakes are not my subjects of expertice. Gonna need some help on that, so I figured I'd come here to the experts

For being what she is, she's in real good shape........but she's 30 years old and she's tired..........ESPECIALLY in the suspension........What I'm looking for is something that will make that car corner like it was on rails...........I'm open to all ideas..........What I'm looking for is more a "sports car" suspension than a "muscle car" suspension, if you follow me. And since I have a little blonde money reducing agent........I mean wife...........I can't do anything radical to the interior of the car like X braces in the back seat or a full roll cage. What I AM thinking about doing is frame stiffeners and x member underneath to stiffen the car.

The one thing I AM planning on doing is overbuilding the car. I'm only going to do this once to this car. I'd rather have a little overkill and have it bulletproof, than make something too fragile and have to be constantly repairing a weak part.

There's plenty of folks here that would be glad to offer suggestions on how to spend your money! Just figure out a budget and post a question in the suspension section. Just a set of frame connectors will reduce the flex a lot. What size wheels are you getting for X-mas? That may determine how big you can go with the brakes.

Getting Year One 15x8 Reproduction Honeycombs. I know, I know, they're not low profile.............but I'm a bit old school that way. It's kind of hard to have raised white letters when you don't have enough sidewall ;)
