      color ?

just wondering if anyone has seen the American Hot Rod (Boyd Coddington) episode where they built the "67 corvette stingray? I really liked the color for my project but didn't catch if they mentioned the color Boyd sprayed on it. Anybody have a clue to what it might be?

Actually the split window Vette was a one year only 63'. There are a lot of nice reds around, I don't believe they mentioned on the show the exact color, but Porsche Guards Red looks close.

its most likely Boyds Red . it is a custom color from PPG. It has no brown tones to it very nice.
Nothing says "I built this" better than tool marks and dykem blue..

I would bet it is Boyd's Red as well. Dupont has the formula but you have to call them. Looks awesome on TV and in the mags but it is fairly dark and too purple to me. It is darker than Porshe Red.

that's another problem, when I go to the paint store the name of the color is useless without a color code.

The car is actually painted House of Kolor Kosmos Red which is really a HOK Shimrin Graphics Kolor. It is actually a redder red and deeper then Boyds Red which is also a nice color.

      Dupont color

Paint code is Dupont BC001, or they also use the code RS914N.

I painted my trans am boyd red. It did not turn out to bad.

sounds interesting, but it's useless without the code.

I painted one of my chevelle's 2000 corvette Torch Red and I was stunned at how bright of a red it was (my Vbgarage has a pic). I used dupont's Croma paint, 2 stage. Another option is a silver base with a red candy. There's a recently painted 1st gen floating around here that did a red candy. It looks really deap.

      Just my 2 cents.

Here is a willys we did at Kenny Davis Hotrods! It was on the cover of super rod. It is HOUSE OF KOLORS Blue Blood Red over a white base coat! The can says SG105.Q01 Blue blood if the paint store can't find that! Find a new paint store

Yes I saw that episode, and they mentioned that Boyd experimented with the color to come up with what is now called Boyd Red, Du Pont bought it and is selling it outright. You may have to purchase it from a dU Pont retailer as it is a special order and formula. This particular Red is not made with browns or oranges, that is why it is the vibrant slap you in the face awesome red it is.

      864J - MAGENTA - 130.8
      850J - BRILLIANT RED - 184.2
      886J - OPAQUE RED - 230.8
      150K - B/C BALANCER - 678.3
      175K - BINDER - 862.8

This I obtained from dU Pont but is also obtainable from PPG it costs around $200.00 per quart
The above is the tinting guide.

      Hope this helps
