      1967 Pontiac GTO

This is my project while not my first 67 Pontiac a-body, it its my first GTO. I bought it in August of 2001. This is kinda a long story. Let's get started. I'll fill you in on my lust for pontiacs. Originally when I turned 16 about nine years ago. as a first car I had a rusty 67 tempest custom convertible. red on red with a white top. I swapped in a low miles 400 from a 67 gto, instead of the stock aging 326. A month later a th-350, in place of the blown powerglide(still had reverse though...that's how I got it home) during this time i bought a 72 blazer to drive(which i still have) So I decided to gut the interior to fix the rust, realized I was in over my head and sold it.

About three months before i sold it, My Friend one grade ahead of me bought a mostly complete 67 gto out of a Barn. Story was it was a drag car being returned back to stock, it's A 4-speed with a 4:11 posi. But the owner lost interest. I think it was missing the windshield, column, and shifter at the time. It had been sitting since about 1987. He tore it apart to restore and didn't get much farther. When he went off to UTI in Arizona. I bought it from him, right before my senior year of high school with big plans! It took a fullsize van, a fullsize pickup and a rollback to get it home. At that point it was a shell, no glass,no fenders, nothing. I realized I was just going to need to get it rolling while I gathered parts. So I assembled the body. And started gathering parts. It took my 4 years to find All the parts. A almost perfect complete original 4-speed shifter being the hardest. I also parted a 67 lemans and a 68 catalina, moved 3 times. Plus spent a ton of time and money on the blazer. So it was easy to push this to the backburner. Recently as of this March we moved in to a much larger house and I gained a 600sqft garage. So I've been working on it since about the beginning of May. I did most the work myself with the help of a few friends, which includes rebuilding the suspension Lowering it 1 1/2 inches with Eibach springs, 1 1/4 inch anri-sway bar, and kyb shocks. I switched the front to disk brakes. Installed the engine and M-22 "rockcrusher" trans, It's got A pypes stainless exhaust with cutouts. I Rewired the car using a painless kit. I have all the trim, a complete black interior to install and a rebuilt 455 waiting in the wings. I have 6,000 dollars including purchase in it as it sits. 7,000 with the 455. At this point the car is fairly stock, I plan on wheeling it as is for a bit just to enjoy it while I work on it. The next stage is cleaning up the body, doing some rust repair and a few subtle body mods.. Than I am going to upgrade the suspension and brakes. Probably going with a truck arm rear suspension, I'm not quit sure on the front yet. Once I get the body and suspension and brakes finished. I'll probably blow it apart for paint. then throw it back together with the 455. only time will tell. I'll keep this thread updated as I go.

Sounds like a nice project. Drive it untill you have enough parts to do one step in your plans. I did it like that and drove mine for two and a half years before I took it apart. Keep the updates coming. And welcome.

I'm thinking about shaving the rocker trim along the bottom, the wheel well trim, and the GTO badges on the rear quarter panels.

I've seen a '67 with most of that trim shaved and it looks so super-clean. What great lines.

Without even trying. I think its gearbanger on hear has a 295-45-18 on his. He said he had a little messaging to make that work. There is a pic of his red 67 in the pontiac thread.

where is this pontiac thread? I'd like to get as much under there as possible but all the local shops are telling me a 275/50/17 won't fit. I've had a 265/55/15 under there and it fit no problem. also I think that my inner fender lip has already been rolled. how much more room does that give me?

Just need to get the BS right. I am going to run 285-40-18 on my 66 Cutlass. Its tight but it will fit.

I guess they don't even make a 275/50/17 or I couldn't find one. I looked around and all I could find was 275/40/17 and a 285/40/17. I want to run more side wall and I want wide but not SUPER wide... I'm not sure.... I guess I need to get or build one of those wheel and tire mock up tools that bolt to the hub. the roads suck in Seattle so I can't have rubber bands.

I guess I'm just reviving all the old threads... Is there any update on this?
