67 Camaro Rear Supension
I have been working on plans for my 67 Camaro PT car. One of my biggest "can't make up my mind" areas is the rear suspension. Wanted to see if anyone here has tried and seen any pros or cons to these.
1. Independent rear suspnsion - a scabbed in Corvette-ish set up or a custom fabricated system that utilizes the same or very similar spindles as the front.
2. 4 bar setup with "bird cages" and a lift bar like what is run in Dirt round track cars. Basically a 4 bar setup with the brackets on the rearend able to float (not welded to axle tubes). Works like a Watts link on each side of the rearend. Axle wrap is contained by a "lift bar" that is attached way forward of the rear end. Then of course a track bar setup to control side to side.
My formula car road race days tell me that the IRS is the best way to go for overall tuning of the chassis and getting the most out of the car, but the solid axle is WAY easier of an install. The bird cages gets you closer to an IRS, but is still a solid axle.
Thoughts, ideas.
Thanks!!!
