      Exhaust Coating

      Anyone ever ceramic coated an exhaust system or powder coated?
      Looking for a new system for my 68 camaro and not sure if i want to go stainless or aluminized steel and then have it ceramic coated. I'm set on spintech mufflers just need to get head pipes and tail pipes.
      Thanks

      I plan on having my exhaust system ceramic coated once I've got it all set up.
      I know Pypes used to offer their systems bare or coated, but now they just offer two choices of stainless. I asked one of their people about it and the main issue was damage to the coating during fitment and installation.
      Stainless transfers less heat than regular steel, but more than coated steel.

      Ceramic coating is great. I've even ceramic coated stainless. It lasts great and keeps heat lower than with stainless. For better welds go with raw mild steel rather than aluminized.

      And don't powder coat, it fails at a much lower temp than ceramic.

      My new custom headers will be finished in the next couple of weeks. And soon after that, I will send them to Swain for their ceramic coating. No need to go stainless with a good coating.

      Thanks for the input. I plan on getting the whole system ceramic coated. Any recomendations for a reputable company to do this?

      Not to rain on the parade...

      But, I have read a few articles stating that ceramic coating isn't that beneficial past the collector.

      A little resurrection there . . .
      I wouldn't be surprised that there is less benefit to ceramic coating the exhaust after the collector, but there is some benefit.
      As you move farther back there is less and less benefit, since the exhaust gasses are no longer actually burning (which they tend to do until somewhere around the collector), and they do cool down as the pressure drops and some time passes.
      However, the closer the pipe is to the engine the greater the benefit.

      The benefit is the looks.

      If youre talking about a real ceramic coating, as far as looks go, your talking about white. Period.
      Lots of coating companies out there selling their process as 'ceramic'. Only one I know of actually is. My custom headers are finally done, and they, along with the oval pipe and mufflers, are going here;
