Another Auto Body Crap story...

My Nova took a beating a few years ago from some kids on bikes. So Ive saved some money to get the scares fixed.
My Dad had some work done on a few of his vehicles that turned out great so he called his guy (a pro shop ) we set up a meeting he saw the car quoted us an affordable price. He wants to paint the entire car with in my budget! yes thats cool

1 week later he has my car I run him up some parts and I try to talk to him about the paint because The hood doesnt match and is to lite. I just said that when he matches the paint to please match the roof and doors not the hood. The guy just barely raises his one eye above his computer and tells me in a dead pan delivery "IM not dealing with you Im dealing with your old man" I tell Him "Im paying you not my dad" He comes back with "Im an Old man too and know the old man is payin" at this moment his shop Foreman speaks up "Probly not your car anyway?" I told him Its been mine for 16 years Then I said "I better leave now or I might just drive My Nova home right now" No Answer from them and I just left.


I hate Body shops. I think its the Dp90 or the thinner that gets in these guys brains that they just turn to asses..

Funny quik story
In High school my buddy had his Cutlass painted at a local one man 2 car garge type guy. He did a good job but One time we found him passed out on the floor with a thiner soaked rag in his hand and then the day we picked the car up the guy was so wasted on thinner He kept giving the money back to my buddy. Joe would hand him the money they would talk for a few sentences and the guy just said thanks and handed the money back.. This happened 3 times before my buddy said the heck with it and left with out paying....

I like the second story. Now as far as the other two ass's make sure you give them a BIG smokey burnout when you leave. Tell them Daddy said its ok.

I hate hearing stories like this. I know one thing, if somebody talked to me like that while I am paying them money to paint my car, man it would be game on, and patty would stretch her legs in the parking lot.... and good ways down the street just for fun.

My plan at getting back is to pick the heck out of his paint job no matter how well its done..... Wouldnt it be funny to get my car in one of the mags in the little hometown hero section and have something like (and Joe schmoes auto body laid down a good 20 foot paint job) Id take the insult just to get their name out there with a sock in the eye..

Body and paint guys can make ya or break ya. Once they have your car, it's like they're pointing a (paint) gun at your head.

It sucks because the first thing that happens is the car is disassembled and only they know where all the parts are (usually). I've been screwed over on more paint jobs than I've ever gotten completed. I've lost little parts, big parts, and many thousands of dollars in cash. I've tried paying up front, making gradual payments, paying nothing until I saw progress, bartering work for work, working with people I've known for years, working with total strangers, working with old guys who were supposed to know better, working with young guys trying to establish a name for themselves, and more. I've been subject to shop closures, like when I came back from an overseas trip to pick up my truck, which was supposed to be painted while I was gone, to find it parked behind the shop, disassembled and without paint or bodywork completed, with all (or most of) the parts in the pickup bed and the shop cleaned out. (I'd paid for the paint job in advance). I've waited more than 3 years after dropping a media-blasted body off at a shop for a good friend to work on it, only to find it rusting outside when I finally gave up on him. I've built engines for body guys in exchange for body/paint work to get a half-assed effort with mouse poop left in a partially-completed car that was now missing its rare fender skirts (original 1950 steel units I've not been able to replace yet).

The paint on my wagon isn't perfect either, but it got laid on in 2 weeks and the guys did what they said they'd do- a decent job in a short period of time.

I don't have a lot of money, so I doubt I'll ever have a truly killer paint job on anything I own. I've tried every way I know to get a really good paint job without simply paying huge for it, and I can't seem to make it happen.

I think I should take a note from Steve Rupp and just buy cars with nice paint from the start. Maybe someday I'll do that. Right now, I've got 2 project cars in primer, and I'm hoping to figure out how to get a good paint job someday.

It can be frustrating.

yah once I finish gettin my money together I would like to send it down to a shop in orlando to have them do all the metal/ body and paint work on it...but i need to keep saving until that day haha...but yah i hate when people assume daddy paid for it, believe it or not some people actually work hard and earn things themselves

we are not all bad. ive owned my bodyshop for about 12 yrs now i would never talk to any of my customers like that weather daddy was paying or not. i do high qaulity work for a decent price but it takes me longer to do the better qaulity . i do all the work myself because it does have my name on it . you would be amazed how people will treat you when your on the other side of the desk it can really test your patience . my comp. ive heard is really rude ( but hes the busiest shop in town )i have seen some of the work well im not going to run anyone down but my quality is better but because he can get them in & out faster he stays alot busier than me. i guess i take to much pride in my work because its about to put me out of business . most people want a great job but there not willing to wait for it especially when someone down the road can do it in half the time . anyone want to buy a bodyshop?

Not sure I would be leaving my car with them. With all the horror stories you hear about I think that would be enough to send me running. IF the shop doesn't respect you and doesn't respect your money how are they going to respect your property...

That sums it up pretty well. Sounds like a couple of B-holes. Sounds like a smoke show in the shop is in order.

Oh Hell Yah you better do that!!!!!! + add in the "you are #1" finger gesture when the come over to bitch about it.

Of course this is after you inspect the final paint job & are ready to take it home
