      Vortec heads for a 383

Are Vortec heads any good for a 383 sroker motor?

they work on mine. i have stock size (170cc?) heads but if i did it over i'd probably go to the next size up. IIRC it's a 185cc runner.
work in progress--for the next 10 years.

      I have 215s on my 383....I wouldn't run less than a 190 or 195cc head on it.

I'd run vortechs on a 327 or really mild 350 (like for a tow vehicle) but if you want this thing to pull past 5,000-5,500 rpm and make any power, you'll want a bigger port to feed it.

I also run a dual-plane- but my Air Gap is a big dual plane proven to be capable of making good power in the higher rpm ranges. My 383 pulls hard to its 6,500 rpm redline, and made peak power on the dyno at 6,400.

It all depends what you want the engine to do, and where you want it to happen.

      vortec Edelbrock 170's

I put the small E-tec heads on my 87 t/a with 383 - with a zz4 cam - idles like a kitten and pulls away from my LS1 99 Firehawk - it passes emissions here in Tx - great sleeper if the bigger heads -200cc ports and a hot cam it would be awesome - oh and it still has CC controlled quadrajet on it
BTW stock vortec are limeted to about a .450 lift cam - LT1stock cam works good - but no fuel pump lobe - i built a cheap rebuilder s/b with stock LT1 cam and stock vortec heads in my sons 72 chevelle- another sleeper
