      One Glowing Header Tube????

      Hey guys,
Here is the situation; I just built a brand new engine (sbc 355) for the Nova. Went to break it in and after about 5 minutes of running it at around 2500rpm to break in the cam i notice that the header tube on cylinder #5 is glowing red hot. None of the other cylinders are glowing. What could cause this on only one cylinder? Also i noticed some white residue inside the tube when i removed the header. Any help is greatly appreciated.
      Thanks,
      Brian

Maybe the exhaust valve isn't fully seating and is allowing the combustion into the #5 primary tube?

maybe you lost a cam lobe during break-in
I would pull valvecovers and crank the engine around once by hand to see if the #5 valves are opening and closing properly

yeah i thought of that too, i checked the rockers and they seem to be opening an closing properly. I just dont get why that one cylinder is doing it. Im gonna pull the plug tomarrow and see what it looks like.

Is it possible that you have your PCV hose to the port on the intake that is specific to 1 cylinder?
I did this and it causes a lean condition in one cylinder, hence the glowing tube.
PCV should be connected to a vacuum port that feeds all cylinders.
