      welding 4130

whats the best way to weld 4130? what kind of rod do you use, Ive heard things about stainless rod? are there any tricks or differances compared to welding mild steel? I'm starting to get into doing some 4130 cages and havn't had much experiance with the stuff.

also can it be mig welded?

I use ER70 (normal mild steel rod). Heres an article from Lincoln:

Interesting. You've got me curious now... What's your reaction to Lincoln's recommendation to use mild steel filler rod? (And not just Lincoln... I found many sites that recommend the same thing). In fact, most specifically say not to use 4130 filler rod.

Do you heat treat after welding? Just wonderin'...

Race Dezert has without a doubt some of the most expernced fabricators who just happen to have internet access... not the other way around like found on some sites....(not pointing anything out) heres a little thread on 4130 any why you shouldnt use 4130 filler rod in most applications... Use er312 on pretty much everything... http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/sho...130+filler+rod
