      Houston Area

In my search for the great job I have been questioned about Houston for potential work within the oil and gas industry. I have been to DFW and Austin but not to Houston. Heard it was the mosquito capital of the world (hahaha). How are the schools and where to look for potential housing. The other areas I am looking at are Dayton, Ohio and Indianapolis. So any input would be great and very helpful. If you work in the oil and gas industry I have some questions so pm me if you are interested in answering.

      Thanks.

Looking to work for Marathon now Alan? I've got a good friend who just took a job with them if you are. She's on the business side of things though. So far they are proving to be a great company to work for. Good luck.

      Trey,

I am not sure I know several are looking for people out there. Atlanta is just about useless. Very few jobs here for engineers and when you find one it pays like crap. I have heard some good things about the oil and gas companies. I have to find something I have not worked in over 8 months. It is getting rediculous.

Actually the town of Clute Texas is the Mosquito capital! It's about 70 miles South of Houston. (Seriously and they have a festival each year) Most of the development is going on in the West, Northwest and North side of Houston. If you've got the money, the Woodlands is a nice place to live and work. I live on the Northwest side of town. Great Schools in any of these areas, klein, Katy and Cy-Fair Schools are top notch.

Not too many mosquitoes in Houston, unless you live out in the woods where they do not spray. Try Southern Louisiana if you want to see some that can carry you off.

Houston has a HUGE car scene, and offers plenty to do. It is a huge city, several nice and affordable areas to live. Look at home prices on www.HAR.com for examples of what you can get for the dollar.

I'm in the offshore oil/gas industry, been in it for about 8 yrs now. No regrets, it is definitely the industry to be in if you are an engineer.

Yeah, I'm looking to go towards Charlotte if I don't go into the oil/gas industry. My biggest problem I think is being at an Ag Engineering school. Granted, I will be a ME just like anyone else but my co-op opportunities and school connections are not with oil/gas companies. I'm not interested in staying in the ATL area.
