I can't talk. Back when I was 17 I forgot to tignten a set of lugs on the shop truck. The wheel came off on the freeway, hit the center divider, and landed on a car coming in the opposite direction. Nobody was hurt, but I have become pretty anal about proper wheel nut torquing proceedures.

This is old. What happened was the guy went into a parts store and needed new lugs for his race rims. The clerk gave him the wrong lugs for his car(most likely switched metric and SAE). The owner did not notice. The owner then installed and torqued the new lugs and race tires to the car before the run(eye witness standing right there let him borrow the torque wrench verified). Obviously, he found out the hard way they weren't the correct lugs after all. The car was virtually undamaged from the incident. Bent the rocker pinch welds mainly. Guy actually put his street rims and lugs back on the car and drove home. Sorry to be a buzz kill, I just know the story.

i knew a guy who is a VERY good mechanic with his own shop. he works on everything from VW to ferrari. one night he forgot to tighten the rear lugs on his 69 camaro. luckily he test drove it before he loaded it to go to the track. he made it about 1/4mi and 1 turn before the rear dropped. luckily there was no damage to the car, but it was fun getting it on the flatbed.
