      Black moldings or not!!

Wondering if anybody has any pictures or suggestions on whether black window moldings and door handles would add to or take from my Camaro. Cannot decide! I will have to get the moldings polished if not and try to find drip rail moldings that fit good. Any help would be appreciated.

Nice car, I love that color blue.

I would stay with polished mouldings with the wheels you have on it. If you might be planning on different wheels at sometime down the road and you incorporate some black centers then black mouldings would be a balancable look, otherwise when I have seen it done in black with chrome bumpers and wheels it just looks like an in transistion state to me. The stripe would also help if it was black to make the trim fit in the look.

You might try painting them the same color as the car? I haven't seen that done but there is always a first and if you don't like it Stainless is very forgiving and will let you go right back to polished.

Maybe someone can do a photoshop to give you a better idea before you do anything.

Goodluck on your decision, things like this are always a tough and personal call no matter how many comments you get.

I was just thinking about this earlier today. I have a black car and my stainless moulding flew off. Before I reinstall them, I was wondering how it would look with black trim.

Does anyone make a press-on style black trim or would you have to paint the stainless ones?

On your car, I think body color would probably look pretty cool. My car is black, so that's why I'm thinking about that color.

I have never thought about body color! I have photoshop so I guess I could play around with it and see what I like best. The problem I am having is whether or not to leave as few of the stainless trim off as I can, except for front and back glass, or to run the rain gutter stainless or what. I could go either way, but once the channel molding goes on it will scratch the paint off and so there is no going back, then the window belt moldings at the bottom of the side glass, if I run it the window felts are different so I cannot afford to make the mistake on that! Half the people say one or the other so .......I am stmped and cannot make up my mind. I have looked at shows but still nothing. The car originally came with no side moldings around the windows, but the car was Matador red too, now it is blue. What do you guys think since black is now out....no stainless but the front and back glass and leave the rest off?

Front and rear glass, rear quarter glass has a thin piece and the marker lights, and door handles will have just enough to set it off nicely. Keep it clean and simple. I would not put any side pieces on (i.e. rocker molding and gutter moldings). JMO!

That is what I was thinking as well, since there are the few other pieces on the side to accent the color. The other pieces in NOS states are hard and super expensive which makes them look less appealing to me. I believe I will do just that and run only what originally came on the car less the lower molding below the door. I agree it just looks cleaner without the others and resolves a hasle. Glad everyone seems to like the color, it is a true head turner and a fun ride to drive. Hopefully it will be on the street finished by next year, I would love to do the Run Through The Hills or Power Tour.

I agree with Jim and Class67. Keep it clean and simple.

If you plan on tinting the side windows, then I would consider maybe just doing the thin stip that is attached to the rear side windows in satin black. IMO if the windows are tinted, that shiny vertical piece that hold the rubber seal looks out of place. Paint it black and it blends in.

The side glass is tinted, it is the kit from Prodigy, which fits great by the way. So maybe I will paint that small edge of the window felts, I will lay them up first and see. As far as what was mentioned about brushed aluminum are you saying paint the stuff the color of brushed nickle?

I'm not sure what the limitations are with the material those moldings are made of, but that color and texture of brushed nickel seems like it would go well with your color combo. If the moldings (or any part) can be chromed than they can be done with the brushed nickel treatment I believe...

Ever seen a black on black pinstripe suit? It's called tone on tone contrast. Think about the same color on your trim, but a different sheen. A matte or satin perhaps.

Honestly, I don't think a monochromatic look would be good. going with a brushed nickel would be awesome though. If you did decide to go with black rims or do black centers, then black would look real sick on the trim and door handles. to me a monochrome look is well, kinda boring. You have an awesome ride, don't dull it up.

Now that's a good idea. I was thinking a similar thing.

I like the brushed look as well and I'm Thinking of doing it on my own car. As for the door handles, you can get them powdercoated to look brushed or color co-ordinate.

How do you get the brushed look on stainless moldings? Do you have to send them to a chrome shop or is there another way?
