      Tko 600 ?

What vehicle did the TKO 600 originally come in?

I'm looking for a cheaper way to get one for my Ford 302

It was never an OEM offering.

The TKO is based on the old 3550 Ford truck transmission. Back in 1995 Ford made a turn key race car called the Cobra R. It was not street legal and they did put a 3550 in it.

Unless you can find a used TKO, there is no "cheap" way to do it. Unless of course, you simply go with a 3550 and not an actual TKO.

Is there a way to change the granny gear to make it work like a regular 5 speed?

Also is that the ZF 5speed?

What tranny are you referring to? The TKO-500 has a 3.27 1st gear, which, if you use a 3.55 or higher, it won't be a granny gear. The TKO-600 has a 2.87 1st gear which I wouldn't consider a granny gear at all, unless your running a 4.56 or lower.

No the TKO nor the 3550 is a ZF. To my knowledge, the ZF is a 6 speed that came in the corvettes. Didn't know they made a ZF 5 speed.

There was a heavy duty ZF 5-speed trans that was used OEM by Ford (and maybe others). Ford put it in F-250 and larger trucks, from 1988 - 1997, behind gas and diesel engines.

It's a very large unit dimensionally, don't think that it would be suitable for passenger car usage.

The ZF 5 speed's are used in the BMW M3 and some of the Mercedes. The Tremec is still a better value because the ZF transmissions are expensive, even used.

Yes the ZF 5 Speed was also used in F150 too. Also I have a F150 for my project.

Sure it's a ZF? Usually the F-150 used the Mazda M5R2, which also has a pretty large housing. Same model of trans in my T-Bird SC.

I wonder how that would work in my truck? A trans from a SC

They are a pretty heavy unit, and some of the parts are getting a bit tougher to track down. The main difference between the SC version and the F-150 version is the shifter position. If it's going in a truck, maybe the F-150 version would work better ... you would have to get out the tape measure I guess.
